Hi - short time lurker, recently got round to registering. I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes in January this year with a side order of chronic hypertension thrown in as a freebie. After a few months of medication, some major improvements to diet and exercise, and lots of love and support from my wonderful family I'm starting to get used to the idea of living with this thing rather than letting it dictate every aspect of my waking life.

Nice to meet you all, hope you are all well 🙂

Welcome to the forum @Brave Sir Robin. I'm a Type 3c as if T1 and not well placed to offer anything useful to you as a T2 - but I'm sure others will be along soon. Meanwhile welcome.

Welcome! Relatively new T1 here but we are all in it together. 🙂

Welcome @Brave Sir Robin 🙂 Having a supportive family is great 😎 Are you on any medication for the diabetes?
Hi, yes. I'm on metformin for the diabetes and a cocktail of other stuff for the high blood pressure. I think I was relatively lucky with side effects given some of the horror stories I have heard with metformin.

That is a lucky escape from the side effects, the metformin will help your body use the insulin it produces more effectively but dietary changes are also important so I hope you have taken on board that. Losing weight if you need to will also help with your high blood pressure, some people find they need to reduce the blood pressure meds under GP supervision of course when blood glucose reduces.
Many find a low carb approach is successful at reducing blood glucose as you are reducing the foods which convert to glucose. This link may help with some ideas for doing that if that is a regime which appeals to you. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Hi and welcome to the online community. I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but you may find it helpful to find people in a similar situation as you. How are you coping, you maybe able to find some helpful information on our website.

Thank you, I have been using the website quite a bit since I was diagnosed, and have found it really helpful

That’s great to hear @Brave Sir Robin (great username! But now I have the song as an earworm)

A diagnosis with diabetes can come as a real shock - and feeling overwhelmed, or going through a process very similar to grieving is quite common.

Glad you are finding ways to live with your diabetes, without it taking over everything. Hopefully exchanging experiences here will help as part of that process.

Ask away with any questions 🙂
