Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi
Although new to all this ( I have type 2 diabetes) I'm a pretty glass half full type of guy and hoping that with a slight change of diet ( I have a pretty healthy diet anyway ) this will be a manageable issue and just one question as I've read some horror stories about sukkarto what are the main side effects ?

Welcome to the forum @pac paul

Sukkarto is a form of metformin - the most commonly offered first line medication for type 2 diabetes. It is a ‘slow release’ version so is usually tolerated better than regular metformin. The tablets have a film coating that delays the absorption making it gentler on the tum.

The most common side effects are usually some sort of upset stomach. Usually mild, and generally short lived. Metformin is affectionally called ‘Metfartin’ by some members

Some people have a harder time tolerating it as a medication than others, but most people find things settle down pretty quickly. If you get more dramatic side effects there are lots of alternative options.

There is more info about possible side effects here:

Hi @pac_paul and welcome to the forum.

You may think you have a pretty healthy diet, but as T2 diabetics we soon discover that the type of low fat high whole grain, high fruit diet considered healthy for most of the population is decidedly unhealthy for us, since it spikes our Blood Glucose (as any CGM or BG meter tells us).
All those carbohydrates digest into glucose - which is what our bodies are intolerant to.
Eating more meat, fish, eggs, full fat dairy, above ground veg, nuts, seeds tend to be better for us than breakfast cereals, grains, bread, tropical fruit, fruit juice and other sweet items.
