Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello, I am Sally and I have been a type 1 diabetic since 11yrs old (now 46yrs old).
And I have 2 children, an 8yr old son, Ezra and a 4yr old daughter, Verity.
And I was very fortunate in receiving great support from my hospital whilst having the children.
My insulin pump was temporarily detached by another hospital. But I still wear the Freestyle Libre which I find really supportive at helping me effectively manage my type 1 diabetes.
Thanks
Sally

Welcome to the forum @Sally Lloyd

How have you found it transitioning back to MDI from your pump? Has it made things more straightforward for you?

Living with diabetes does seem to be at least partly about finding the right options at the right time for you as an individual.

There are no hard and fast rules - and what works for one person won’t necessarily suit another.

Thank you for your note.
And I totally agree. I really do think that the best approach is rooted in what best supports your lifestyle at that moment in time.

I found moving back from pump to injections no problem at all. And blood sugars remained fine.
Although my GP advised that my last HBA1c of 48 a few weeks ago was a bit too low in his opinion. But I have been living pretty well on that HBA1c. ‍♀️

As you are wearing Libre you have the benefit of TIR (time in range) and 24-hour data.

Your GP is doubtless concerned about the possibility of hypos, and the risk to your warning signs of repeated low-level drifts below 4.

Check out these recommendations
International consensus recommendations for Time in Range

But bear in mind that the best hypo ‘allowance’ would be as small as possible. Even 1% time sub-4 could mean a 15 minute hypo every single day, which obviously isn‘t great!

Hello and another welcome to the forum @Sally Lloyd. It's great to hear you have had great support in the past, and appears you're managing well. I really like the names Ezra & Verity, very unique! Please reach out if you have any questions or anything 🙂
