Hi, I'm a 31-year-old woman from England with diabetes symptoms, and I've joined hoping to find some advice. I love animals, history, and vintage television.

Hi and welcome.

What symptoms are you experiencing and have you been in touch with your GP to get a blood test (HbA1c test) to get your concerns checked out?

Do you have any animals yourself and if so would you like to tell us about them? There are lots of us animal lovers on the forum. I have horses, cats, chickens and bees. 🙄

Anyway, I hope you find the forum reassuring and supportive and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them.

I have a dog and a cat -- they're my whole world, but they're both a handful; I can't imagine what it's like to have four separate species to take care of!

Welcome to the forum @Souvenir 🙂

Have you got anyone in your close family who has diabetes? Are you carrying any extra weight? (don’t feel you have to answer if you’d prefer not to, but it’s one of the risk factors).

What sorts of symptoms have you been experiencing? And how long have you been feeling them?

Hopefully the friendly members of the forum can give you encouragement, support, and some pointers based on their experiences 🙂

What vintage TV shows do you like?
Upstairs Downstairs, The Persuaders, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), When The Boat Comes In, Fall of Eagles, Who Pays The Ferryman?, Colditz, Secret Army, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Robin of Sherwood...the list is endless! Right now, I'm watching Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads 😛

I also love several series from the early 90s -- Between the Lines, Cracker, House of Cards, to name a few -- but does 90s truly count as vintage yet?

I used to love Secret Army, @Souvenir - got the DVD boxset of it recently and my OH can't watch it with me, he'd never seen it before but he had seen Allo Allo and just can't get that out of his head, sadly. I'll watch it again on my own eventually! I'm not quite old enough to have seen most of the others you mention when they were originally on, I remember my parents watching Colditz though and I've seen a few episodes of that.

I'm not sure how old something has to be to become vintage! It's quite a subjective term, isn't it?!

I was taught at home, so I grew up watching all the vintage programmes instead of modern television. It's funny, whenever I talk about vintage TV, it's always Secret Army that everyone remembers. It really is one of the greatest series of all time.

When I was in my early 20s, I was on holiday in Bath, and by chance, Paul Shelley (Nick Bradley in Secret Army) was acting in a play there, so my sister and I waited outside the stage door to get his autograph. He was stunned that we'd seen Secret Army at our age, and I still remember him saying, out of all the work he'd done, "Secret Army was something special."

The 90s had some real gems that I absolutely love (I forgot to mention Hamish Macbeth and The Crow Road, as well!), although overall, IMHO, the British Golden Age of Television ended about 1987.
