Hey 🙂

Was diagnosed with diabetes a week ago, am 28 weeks pregnant but they say it isn't gestational diabetes. Have to wait 6 weeks for a blood test to tell me if it's type I or II.

Have just been 'released' from hospital, although blood sugars are still way too high, maybe being at home will help get them under control.

This is all feeling scary and overwhelming but I am just trying to deal with it day by day at the moment.

Nice to find people going through the same stuff... so hi 🙂

Hi there Fairy welcome to the forum, theres a few pregnant ladies on here at the moment some just starting out on the pregnancy journey and some who are due in the next few weeks, have a good browse around the pregnancy section and im sure anything you need to know this is the place to be.So welcome onboard Xx.

Hi Fairy, welcome!

Have they put you on insulin?...do you have a contact number for a diabetic specialist nurse you can call for advice re doses & diet etc?... Hopefully they will have booked you into a special diabetic antenatal clinic so will be keeping a close eye on you & supporting you!

Ask whatever questions you want - there's a whole pregnancy section & as Steffie said, quite a few pregnant ladies at the mo! I've had T1 for 31yrs & have a 3yr old & 5 month old baby, so will do my best to (try to) answer any questions you have. Just remember you're not alone! 🙂

Hi Fairy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Can't add to what the ladies have already said - I hope that you will find the forum a friendly and helpful place to be. Please ask anything that is puzzling or worrying you, I'm sure you will get a quick response!

Hi Fairy, welcome to the forum.

Hey, thanks for friendly welcomes 🙂 I already feel better!

They have put me on insulin, but the dose just keeps on going up and the blood sugar stays the same. I really want to get this under control as quickly as possible. At least now I'm at home I can eat a lot more healthily than I could in hospital... "Do you want mash or chips with your macaroni cheese?" Unbelievable lol

I do have a diabetes nurse and a diabetes midwife, they are looking after me very well, phoning me twice a day, just wish I could get these levels down!

Oh I do have a quick question...

Where do you inject if you are in public? I found myself sat on a toilet today trying to check blood sugar and then inject, balancing everything on my lap with a huge bump in the way on a chuffing public loo!

It made me cry, but I didn't know what else to do... any tips?

hi and welcome to the forum and best of luck ....you dsn and midwife sound like they are on the case with keeping contact so push them to give you as much advice as you can x🙂

Don't worry about injecting in public. You can be discreet and inject at the table, and usually people won't even notice - if they do, well it's none of their business! I can understand that you find it difficult, being so newly-diagnosed (and heavily pregnant too!). Once you've done it a few times, matter-of-factly, you'll be fine with it. 🙂

There's a discussion about it currently on the general message board - thistopic often crops up so you're not alone!

Hi again!

Don't worry about the insulin levels going up - they tend to get scarily big when pregnant! (It's the placenta apparently!). The doses tend to get higher the further along you go...!

Really glad you're getting good support from you team - great to hear! 🙂

Thanks everyone, already finding this a friendly and helpful place 🙂

I sat in Yo Sushi at lunchtime with my partner and I injected myself semi-under the table :D Am very proud of myself lol I hope I can be as brave if I'm by myself. Thanks Northerner 🙂

Well done! I'm proud of you too! 🙂

Hiya and welcome to the forum. Good on you for injecting in public. My little one loves doing it to try and shock people and so far she's failed because they've never noticed, except for her Scouting friends who all love to watch!

Hope you get through the rest of your pregnancy happy and healthy too and they sort out your type etc.....good luck
