Hello, I’m new to the Forum & I’m a 68 nearly 69, female who was diagnosed diabetic in February last year, just before Lockdown. I just really didn’t take it in, I thought, I can’t be, although overweight, 30 BMI, I m fairly active. I do carry nearly all my weight around my middle. 40 days ago I started on Roy Taylor’s shakes diet to try & reverse my condition. My first BS reading was a terrible 22, I refused medication last yea & didnt. I’m now day 41 and 1stone 7 pounds down & my sugar reading post prandial today was 5.9 so I know I’ve come a long way.

Hi @RonW
well done on the weight loss & improved control
.
the healthcare professionals will confirm upon on your Hba1c result
If your in remission.
how high was your Hba1c when you were diagnosed?

Well done on the weight loss @RonW and on the reduced BG levels.

Feel free to have a look around the forum, and ask any questions you may have - there are literally centuries of lived diabetes experience on the forum - and lots of strategies and ideas you could consider. And no question will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’.

Look forward to hearing more of your story too 🙂

Are you still on the Newcastle/shakes diet?

Welcome to the forum and well done on your weight loss and better levels

I had bloods done yesterday & was called by the Diabetes nurse today who said, I’m so pleased to be making this phone call, your Hba1c is 6.1 which means your pre diabetic! I have to say I cried to hear that news. I’m still on the meal replacements & I’ve lost 1stone 11lbs so far. I have another 5lbs to lose ideally But I aim to lose some more. I’m excercising every day by walking, doing a mini HIIT on my cross trainer & doing a short stint of weight training. My Kees are better & so is my back. All in all, I feel great!

That is absolutely fantastic news! Well done you!

Hi I'm Suzy, I was diagnosed almost two years ago, with type two, I have found it extremely difficult to understand all these changes, meals, I've always had a sweet tooth, although I've cut down I'm fighting a loosing battle, my Diabetic clinic has given me medication to help loose weight, huge joke I'm picking up, I'm at the end of my rope I have no answers or help, now you spoke of Roy Taylor shakes, did your clinic prescribe this, as I have my review next week and would like to ask her about this,
Congratulations on your loss, it's always awesome feeling to loose,
If there is any one out there, I need friends and communication, love to hear from you soon.

Hi Suzy, I found Roy Taylor on my own & when I mentioned going on shakes doing 800 cals, I was met with a very positive outcome. My diabetic nurse also got the Practice Health & Well Being counsellor to phone me. She has been in contact every fortnight with encouragement & advice. I can only say, if you want to reverse this, you can, but you have to be in the right frame of mind. After a couplel of weeks, it becomes fairly easy & so motivating when you see sugar levels fall & your energy levels go up! I’ll try & give support when i can.

Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time @SuzyQ0211 :(

Have you had much support from your Dr in terms of your diet? Have you trued to reduce your total carbohydrates as well as the obvious sugary things? Do I remember that you were doing Slimming World before?

The Roy Taylor ‘Newcastle’ 800 calorie diet has been getting quite a bit of attention over the last few years with the DiRECT trial. A few members here have tried it, with some success - though I don’t think it works for everyone.

There are more details about the results of the trial here
