My sis and i are type 1, 49 yrs for me and 33 for her. This snow and getting to work thing is a real concern re being stuck. I'm wondereing if any one out there actually has understanding employers who see the real issues for us as Diabetics. Live in Central Scotland and so is a nightmare at moment.

Hi Lynda welcome to the forum , so sorry to hear of all the bother your having theres some scottish members on here who are also having real nightmares for various reasons cause of the snow..I cant really help much with your question in the past ive always had real understanding bosses.....

Hi Linda............

Welcome to the forum..............I also live in central scotland and commute to Glasgow everyday..............trains have been running ok thank god...........and fortunately my employer (the council) seem to be quite good about it...........

Where abouts do you reside.............

Its my sis who's having the troube and she work for the Government !! I'm a GP receptionist !!!! As for your own GP - maybe she needs to have some time out and review her Diabetes training - stupid woman, does she not know a new needle every time is required so that your insulin works properly !

West Lothian - down a big hill - and then up again cos my car is snow and ice bound !!

What trouble is she having............can she get to work......

no she cant and is under great pressure to do so - what if she gets stuck, or her insulin goes wonky becuse of the temperature etc etc - just doesnt seem to be any empathy at all

I agree..........if there are no sure ways of getting back and forth theres no point really............

If she does make an attempt then ensuring there is extra food packed with hypo resolve and any other meds would be a good idea......

I have been delayed on trains etc, but as long as I have my jelly babies I will be fine.....

HI, my trouble is that there is no guarantee if I get to work, that I will get home. The bus, if it runs, (not first bus who pull off the roads first for health & safety anyway) it is late and then like today they tell me they cannot guarantee the service will run all day. I stood over 2 hours waiting on a bus on Thursday before I went home, one hour and a half on Friday before it turned up. I am getting up at 5am to ensure I can get the first possible bus. If I had gone to work monday, (fortunately I had a day off) I would have been stranded as all buses were taken off the road. There are no trains between the two towns and cars couldnt get in or out. The M8 was in chaos so my husband who was in Edinburgh with the car could not have rescued me. My immediate boss is brilliant, its the snr managers making the decisions who are becoming an issue. The expectation is if you cannot make your own workplace, you walk for up to an hour or four miles to get to another. A type one diabetic cant do that safely. Nearest alternative is Falkirk. No buses there either. trains from grahamston suspended. I cant do any more to try and get to work and Im freaking out.I need to know im going to get home again. Ive set out with a back pack, probably too much provisions, insulin, extra insulin, you name it it is in the bag even my mobile phone charger.

hey Shiv , basal bolus - Novorapid and Levimir how bout you - gosh you were even younger than me when you were diagnosed
