Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello,

I’m a newly diagnosed 30 year old female with type 2 diabetes.
I’m looking for lots of help and advice regarding diet. I really want to shift some weight and hopefully improve my blood sugar in the process.
The consensus as far as I’ve read is that low carb diets work well for controlling blood sugar and dropping pounds. My only issue is I am vegetarian, which makes Keto diets or low carb slightly less convenient (A lot more cooking from scratch and prepping meals)

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Welcome to the forum, sorry I don't have a clue regarding vegetarian meals are concerned hopefully someone will be along who can help you.

I did low fat.

Counted the calories, dropped red meat, cheese, cream, everything high calorie, ate a lot of veg and salad.
I lost 4 stones, then did the Newcastle diet, and reversed my type 2.
I agree low carb is good for controlling diabetes, but I really intended to go for reversing mine instead from day 1.

I keep the weight off by eating a Mediterranean diet now, eating a small amount of healthy unsaturated fat.

Is the Newcastle diet food substitute shakes? That’s my worst nightmare. I really want to loose weight but I just don’t think I’d be able to restrict my diet to that level without impacting on my often fragile mental health.

The Newcastle diet is the shake diet.
I lost 4 stone in the year previous to doing it on a simple calorie counting low fat though.

I think I’ll look into that. Well done on your weight loss. Sounds like you’ve done incredibly well
