Been diagnosed type 1 diabetic about 1 month ago. Been an uphill journey coming to terms with it. Had to put my driving license in for a 3 year renewal. Major changes ahead. Hope to get to know you all.

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did your diagnosis come about? What insulin are you on? You've found a community with lots of knowledge and experience here, so hopefully we will be able to help with any questions or concerns you may have 🙂 One thing I would recommend to all Type 1s would be to get hold of a copy of the excellent Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas. Don't be misled by the title - this book is relevant to people of all ages (I was 49 at diagnosis!) 🙂

Looking forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Hi there. Well I fainted and had a BG of 28. Not hospitalised but the first responder said that my blood was like syrup. After an antibody test it was concluded I was type 1. I have had an appointment with the diabetic clinic, but it was cancelled and now have to re-arrange. I am on Novorapid and Lantus.

Welcome. Hopefully we can help you feel a little less lost. I found this site in the early years and it’s been a godsend. We know what we are talking about and even if we don’t have the answer we at least get how hard it is.
Sounds like a dramatic why to find out. Hope your doing okay x

I hope you have at least a telephone contact and that they are helping you with your insulin doses, it's a bit poor that your clinic appointment was cancelled when you are so recently diagnosed :( As I said, any questions or concerns, let us know. What sort of blood sugar readings are you getting now?

Hi Adam

Please please get that appointment sorted - there is absolutely No Way Pedro you'll figure it out on your own, seriously even if you had a brain like Stephen Hawking's you couldn't. It's all fairly logical, the science - if you started off with an in depth knowledge of all the subtle nuances of every single function of every different bit of the human body and brain to start off with it would be quicker no doubt. Not normal things that most people know, though! LOL That book is excellent, so get it anyway. It's a book my clinic Nurses have on their bookshelves as it's well-used by them!

Every little thing you just wonder what why or if, meanwhile - ask us! We are NOT medical experts, but collectively do have hundreds of years experience of living with the thing! 'Somebody' is quite likely to be able to offer info about whatever, and what might help sort it.

Good luck!

Hello Adam, welcome to the forum 🙂 Ewww syrup! They say blood goes like syrup if you eat a McDonald's.
