hi there,

I am new here. I have joined this forum as my mother in law (who is as good as my mum too!) has just been told that it looks like she has diabetes.

I guess I am just a little worried about her and would like to hear from people who have Diabetes what are the best ways we can help and support her as a family?

Thanks for any input!

Lulu

Hi Lulu,

Welcome to the forum, really nice to see your showing such concernand love for your MIL.The best advice I can give is just be there for her and learn as much about diabetes as you can.Dont be too overbearing though some people find it grates abit if and when she needs your help just let her know your there

Im assuming its type 2 ?

If she likes to join here as well she is more then welcome although i know forums are not for all.

Hi Lulu and welcome .

Although you have joined on behalf of your MIL - you might like to read the information at this link.

http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=10406

It will give you some background information.

As Steff says some people don't want you to give them advise but rather to be there as and when they need to rant. Your MIL may need some time in accepting what is happening to her and just having someone to turn to may help.

Have a good look around - you may find some helpful hints.

Welcome Lulu, I would say take your cue from your MIL and if she's got a computer definitely encourage her to join this forum, if she hasn't, then when she's ready, get the forum up for her on yours, give her some basic instruction and leave her to browse.

Best of luck

Hi lulubelle. Welcome 🙂

Can't really add to what's been said except to say well done for doing the most useful thing, which is to join the forum and learn all you can.

There are so many myths and misconceptions about diabetes. Hopefully you'll be able to get to the reality with our help.🙂

Hi Lulabelle and welcome to the forums. Aren't you lovely to take such an interest in your MIL!? As has been said you've done the best thing in joining here and you will learn a lot from the members. Don't try to know it all at once though. Pick it up as you go along and do try to get your MIL to join if she can. It would be lovely to get to know her too!

Ask whatever questions you have and someone will be able to help you. Take care. XXXXX
