Hi,

Im from the UK and last week i was officially informed that i am now Diabetic, Type 2.

I am now on Metformin 3 times a day and my gp wants me to try and regain my blood sugars via the meformin meds and diet, watching what i am eating, carbs, loosing weight etc, however i am finding the what you can and cant eat abit confusing............blood sugars are ranging between 9.3 up to 17 and 20............so as you can see there is a fair bit to do........head is banging from all the info which one has to take in.

So hi from me, to all of you 🙂

Hello!

You'll find everyone here is willing to help you with absolutely anything you want to ask. Don't stress by searching through countless threads, just ask 🙂

All the best!

Hello and welcome from a fellow T2. Since it sounds like you are self testing, keep that up. Do before and 2 hours (maybe an hour after too to start) eating. Keep a food diary & a record of your BG. Hopefully this will show you a pattern and this will help dispell any confusen. It's mostly carbs, including breadfast ceriel.

Hi Missy, welcome to the group.

One of the first things you can do is to cut or reduces carb sources like Bread, Pasta, Rice, Cereals & starchy vegetable like potatoes... Replacing them with green leafy vegetables instead.

Warm welcome to the forum Missy .

Welcome to the forum and don't panic. I'm 4 weeks in and I have high blood sugars - over 15 on first self test. I'm now consistently under 7 though cutting out carbs - basically bread, rice, pasta, potatoes and my favourite veg swede and parsnips. I just eat meat, cheese, eggs and Lidl protein rolls (low carb from their bakery) with green veg every day.

I love indian food which is good for eating out and going low carb. Spinach bahji which I love is low carb!!

Wine is okay too!! I drink red but due to reducing my calorie intake - watch how you feel after a glass or too!

Hi Welcome. It can be very confusing when your first diagnosed , their is a lot of misinformation out there and just to make life interesting diabetes is very individual in what foods affect our BGs (blood glucose) too much, ie I can eat porridge but others cant go near it.
We have some good reading in the pinned section of the newbies section , Jennifer's advise

Many thanks for the welcomes and advise..............everything has been duly noted and stored, now lets see if I can get these bloods to work for me 🙂

The food diary is going to be the hardest for me, over the years my eating habits have been very eratic, i find it hard to eat breakfast and then usually dont eat until around 7-8ish at night.............trying very hard at the moment to establish a 3 meal regime, i'll get there though 🙂

Hi Missyand welcome. 🙂 You've joined a great forum. There's always someone ready to offer help. As you're testing BGs you'll soon work out what foods you can tolerate best. And walking is great to lower levels if you can manage it.
