Hi all, I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago and have been on two doses of quick release Metformin a day with food. I don’t seem to have any nausea issues, but I do find myself, every other day or so getting a bit light headed, and feeling week….it’s not major stuff but it does worry me a bit, especially when driving, and feel a bit washed out. I have cut my food intake by quite a bit and I am trying to eat a good diet…..still learning about that….as it’s a bad diet that got me here….I weigh in at around 117kg. Thanks for your help

Hi, I can understand your worry but it’s completely normal. It’s takes years to build up these high blood sugars but with meds and diet they drop pretty quickly. The body kinda gets used to running on high sugars overtime so the feelings your having are feelings of low blood sugar even though you probably aren’t actually low… you just feel like you are. Eventually your body will adjust, but it’s a pretty funky time. It’s called false hypos. Your not in any danger but it can be really draining

Welcome to the forum @Cscape

Sorry you are having some troubling sensations.

As @EmmaL76 says, it may just be the changes you have made taking effect and giving relatively low (but not technically numerically hypoglycaemic) levels.

The body has a sort of ‘glucose thermostat’ and it can take a few weeks for it to adjust to the more ‘in range’ levels you have beem moving towards 🙂

If you’d like a meter to check your levels when you are experiencing these sensations to ensure that your levels are still above 4.0, you can get a BG meter that you can use at home. The meters themselves are relatively inexpensive, but it is the ongoing cost of strips that can build up. The most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50. Some brands can be 3x that much!
