Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey im Alex. I have been diabetic since i was 7 (now 24). My control was very good up until about a year ago when i started a new position at my place of work. Im on my feet all day and im running about like a lunatic, which is quite different from sitting behind a till all day.
At first i was just having hypos at work which was purely down to the amount of extra moving about i was doing. And then over the last 3 months they became worse and worse.

About 6 weeks ago i was rushed into hospital after being found in bed fitting. Luckily im fine now, no complications or anything which im very grateful for as it was really the first time i required any help. Previously i had never been admitted to hospital for any diabetic related things.

Since then i have been retaught all the carb counting stuff and it would appear that the tuition i was given about it when originally put on this regime was completely sub par. Since being in hospital i have visited my new best friend, the diabetic specialist nurse and she was really shocked at the difference in my blood sugars, and in how i looked in general. When i walked through her office door her mouth actually dropped. Iv lost weight, iv gained colour in my face, and i look abit more alive.

So anyway, Hello! and see you around :D

Hi Alex, welcome to the forum. Very sorry to hear about the hospital visit but it sounds like it had a real silver lining for you - great to hear that you are now back on track and up to date with everything 🙂

If there's anything you need to know, just ask and we'll try our best to help 🙂

Hi Alex

Welcome to the forums 🙂

Sounds like you've had a bit of a 'wake up call' and some good support since. There are a few around here who share that experience, myself included.

Have a browse around and get stuck in. Feel free to ask any questions - nothing will be thought too obvious.

Hi Alex welcome to the forum; I'm sure you'll make loads of new friends on this site; everyone is so helpful, supportive and we even have a laugh...:D Amanda xx 🙂

Hiya Alex - sorry to hear of your bit of a glitch and very pleased to hear it's now sorted out. I have a 'best friend' who lives at Rugby hospital meself LOL

We sort of have 2 conversations running, the bit that we want to (or have to) record and the personal bits LOL

Hi Alex. Welcome 🙂

Not the best way to kick start improvements, but pleased you've found a good team.🙂

If you can carry on fine tuning with your DSN's help, you should avoid any serious complications completely.

Rob
