Type 2
I have been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 for approx three years now and I just find it hard to deal with as although I am on metformin, I have sort of carried on as normal food wise.

Controlling diet is a nightmare and trying to lose weight very difficult.

I think that I must be my own worst enemy!

If anyone has any tips, then I would be grateful.

Best wishes

Ricky

Hi Ricky. Welcome 🙂

Have you had any education about the types of food to avoid amd how others might affect you ?

Welcome to the forums Ricky 🙂

We have a weight loss group that is very helpful with support to loose weight and get tips.

Although I would recommend looking at your diet because if you haven't modified it then it may still be causing you issues both from the diabetes and weight loss point of view.

Hi Ricky, welcome to the forum 🙂 It can be a bit of a minefield! I'd suggest looking at the GL Diet for a good eating approach to help your blood sugar levels stay stable and (hopefully) within range - there are a couple of books reviewed here which I found useful:

Also, it might be worth having a refresher on how best to manage your diabetes, so try to find a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - your local library may have one in stock.

Are you able to exercise much? If so then getting good quality, regular exercise is one of the best things you can do for your diabetes, and should also help with your weight loss too. Try to set achievable goals, and join in with our Weight Loss Group here for lots of support! It's a good idea to start keeping a food diary, recording carb amounts and calories if possible, so you can review it and see where improvements might be made.

Ask anything that is confusing or concerning you and we will try our best to help 🙂

Welcome Ricky,

If you're not testing your blood by finger pricking to see what effect different foods have on you, I would heartily recommend that you start - it will really be helpful in helping you decide what and what not to eat.

Hi Ricky and welcome to the forums. Joining here shows that you want to get better at controlling things. Have a look at the links you've been given and ask anything you're not sure about. As has been said testing your levels and working out which foods do most damage to them is the best place to start. Good luck. XXXXX

welcome ricky ...have a good look round and remember no questions are regarded silly here ...x🙂
