Quick intro, I'm a 70yr old man, live in Cheshire. Diagnosed Type 2 about three years ago amongst other health problems (aeortic stenosis and lung cancer). Other problems treated successfully. Been on Metformin throughout and have just started with Rybelsus yesterday having been prescribed it to assist in lowering blood sugar levels. I'm looking forward to reading all the info this forum has to offer.

Welcome to the forum @Heanster, glad you've found us.

Welcome @Heanster, the forums are a great place to seek advice and information so feel free to ask as many questions as you want, no such thing as a stupid question, there is always someone able to help.
It might help if you provide information such as your HbA1c figure but only do so if you are happy to share.

Hi, on 7th July my GP advised my HbA1c had come down from 91 to 84 so still a way to go but there's a story behind that. Historically it was being managed with Metformin at around 56. One of the many drugs I take for other ailments kept giving me a raging thirst and stupidly I was slaking that thirst with cans of pop.. the full sugar variety... at the rate of 3 cans a day! My GP phoned me convinced I had stopped taking the Metformin. I've swapped all drinks to sugar free so getting the figure down again (which only started fairly recently) has begun but has a way to go. I am being monitored by blood tests every 4 weeks.

Hi @Heanster, we all make mistakes but, good for you in addressing this one.
I'm a bit younger than you at 64 and I have been able to manage my HbA1c through diet and exercise but when diagnosed it was not dissimilar to yours (92 first test 86 second test two weeks later) and I don't even drink cans of pop :D. Have you made any changes to your diet? That was the one thing I did that really had a big impact, I went on a low carb (<130g of carbs/day) diet and that helped bring things well down.
