Hi all,

My new husband (we were married just this Friday) has been diabetic for 6-7 years now and I am his carer I guess.

He's insulin controlled, but not controlled well, and has regular attacks of pancreatitis. This is what caused his diabetes.

We've my two young children (his step children) and had been contemplating a child together. I find myself struggling to motivate him to care about his condition. And also, I feel we've not been given the most practical advice in the world which seems to change dependant on the winds.

I'm hoping to find some good advice and support here from other diabetics and carers.

What type does your husband come under? I did a course called DAFNE a while back, it may be a great help to you both if you wanted to look into it. http://www.dafne.uk.com/

Hi, I'm not sure but I think its type 1? Although the professionals seem to disagree on this and one even mentioned a type 3, which I've never heard of. He's 36, and insulin controlled.

After looking at the NHS site it does seem that yes, your husband is like a type 1 where his pancreas doesn't produce anymore insulin. Type 3 is type 1 that occurs in someone with pancreatitis.

"Diabetes that occurs in cases of chronic pancreatitis is known as pancreatic or type 3 diabetes."

I had not heard of it either until now. I hope you get some helpful responses on your other thread. My heart goes out to you. :(
