I am new to the forum.
I am Type II currently on numerous medications. Diagnosed in late 2008.
Hba1c went a bit wayward for a while and I am currently trying to get good control again.

Hello @Cookie4th and welcome to the forum.
There is a great deal of knowledge and friendship here, and I hope you enjoy joining us.

Hba1c going wayward is a situation many of us have experienced!
For me I usually find it is due to straying off my usual eating plan, usually combined with dropping the exercise as well is tis the cause, usually because of some stress situation.

What sort of things are you trying, to get back under control?
Personally I follow a low carb eating plan, as do many Type 2 forum members, but this isn't the answer for everyone.

If you want any particular information plans on eating plans, how to test Hba1c or anything else then let us know and we will give you some pointers.
Also the Learning Zone link at the top of this page has a lot of useful information

Welcome to the forum @Cookie4th

I think a lot of people have wobbles with their diabetes management, and the current circumstances are making this more difficult for some. For others, like you, it is giving them time and the motivation to start to get better control.

What strategies are you working on. Do come back with any questions that you have. There is plenty of experience to draw on here.

I have started cycling again and doing more walking. It was strange as my Hba1c had been really well controlled even to my doctor saying I was his star, but then it really went off the rails, I have now been put on three medications for the control of my blood sugar, the only advantage we have during current pandemic controls is the family is back to cooking fresh meals as a rule as we are all at home.

Hi I have been on three monthly reviews because of the Hba1c,

My last two readings before lockdown were

82 and then 68

I take 2x 500mg Metformin twice a days
1 x 100mg Sitagliptin
and
1 x 10mg Dapagliflozin

Hello again @Cookie4th
Many thanks for your replies.

That is quite a good drop between your last 2 readings, so hopefully the combination of the medications plus healthy eating and more exercise will keep the readings going downwards.

Do you use a glucose monitor to see how things are going? Unfortunately these are rarely supplied by the NHS for Type 2's but many forum members find them to be useful for self-monitoring, and working out what food types may be causing problems.
SD Gluco Navii is one that many people use, and test-review-adjust gives information on how to go about testing.

Good to hear that you have increased your exercise level with cycling and walking.

Cooking fresh meals may well help too, as many preprepared meals have a lot of hidden carbs in them. Well worth checking the labels. Knowing how many carbs you are eating at each meal can be a powerful tool in managing your Diabetes. Once you know the figure you can then make adjustments by changing your diet and/or portion sizes.

When we first started counting our carbs we were surprised at how many we were eating, particularly at our evening meals. We decided on a target amount for each meal. Initially the meals looked tiny, but switching to smaller plates helped and now we find that it is plenty.

Hi yes, I have a monitor its a contouring of the Bluetooth ones.
Diet is awkward in our house my wife has Crohn's disease and two picky teenagers

Welcome to the forum @Cookie4th

Glad you have joined our happy band! It can be a great help in maintaining motivation and changes to your eating and activity levels to be walking alongside others facing the same challenges, frustrations and occasional victories along the way.

Keep asking questions - nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’ here 🙂

Can you just omit certain elements of meals to suit you but eat with the family. I have curry without rice, used to have a small portion but can no longer tolerate.

Hello @Cookie4th welcome and thankyou for joining our wonderful forum.🙂
