My husband had his big toe amputated just before Christmas, the surgeon diagnosed diabetes at this point. What I am attempting to find out is if he has a case for medical negligence, as he has been having issues for over 10years, each time he was tested his bllods were borderline. He had a diabetic ulcer on his right foot being treated by NHS podiatry, who contacted the GP multiple times to request he was reviewed and medicated, he has peripheral neuropathy, erectile disfunction, significant weight loss, periods of confusion, tiredness and visual disturbances - all documented with his GP.
All this has significantly effected both his ability to work and to carry out day to day activities.
Does anyone know of a reliable specialist law firm who they could recommend?
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your husband’s difficulties and the amputation. I hope now he has a diagnosis he’s feeling a little better.

There are specialist medical lawyers @BJB but I’d try to get his medical records first and have a read through carefully so you can put together a timeline and see if there was negligence and if so, at what point. When did he last have an HbA1C done? Was he testing his blood sugar at home? I’m a bit concerned that you’ve mentioned weight loss. What type of diabetes has he been diagnosed with?

Hi, thank you for your reply.
We have access to his basic records through the NHS app, so can access all his blood tests (most of the time he was recalled & had to have them redone) I purchased a monitor (same make & model that the NHS supplied a friend) but they wouldn't accept the validity of these readings.
He's type 2, one of the issues is he's 6ft7" so is outside most of the standardised charts. He's also adopted so has no family history. He went from 21st to 16st. All of this to my understanding should have raised red flags, especially after other professionals argued that he was diabetic & needed urgent treatment.

Many lawyers give 30 minutes free advice @BJB You could do that, perhaps, to get an idea of the process. I’ve done it (for something non-medical) and found it helpful. It does sound like there should have been more done earlier, especially as other medical professionals were recommending this.

Thank you, it's good to have someone else's opinion to reassure me that I'm not overreacting. Yes, an initial meeting to see what we could do should be helpful. My husband mainly wants an apology for all the missed opportunities to treat him which hopefully would have prevented or delayed his symptoms.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum @BJB

Sorry to hear about your husband’s experiences.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to call the Diabetes UK helpline, and have a chat with one of the advisors?

They may be able to give you some information about your husband’s legal position, and what your options are?

You can call them weekdays 9-6 on 0345 123 2399

I don’t know if Citizen’s Advice may also be able to offer some suggestions?
