Thanks Mike. I might have to work out how yo turn the sound off then as when you add the strip there is a recorded message

Ah! Haven’t ever had that. The most any of mine have ever done is emit a few beeps!

It has a booming ‘Please insert the blood sample’. I’m sure there must be a way to turn it off.

th aks again everyone for your help
Which monitor is it? A quick Google will return the instruction manual I’m sure.

Ahh thank you. I’m in an open office environment, so I’ll have to do it in the loo for privacy. I’ve been changing my lancet each time, good to know there’s no need thanks. How often should you change it then? Can I put the strips in the bin if they have blood on? Should I wash them first? Thank you, this is so new to me.
Change your lancet when it hurts or when you can’t get it to draw enough blood.

I change lancets about every 6 months.

Once you get the hang of it, I doubt anyone will notice you doing it at yr desk.

Edit: Oh apart from the booming voice! But I guess there must be a way to turn that off

Every six months?! Wow! I thought I was doing well at about a week per lancet!
Which device do you use?

An AccuCheck Guide.

It was @Rowsie who was being asked what meter he's using Eddy, not yourself.

The general joking thing is, a bit like Henry VIII who bathed once a year whether he needed to or not - diabetics worldwide change their lancets annually on St Swithin's Day!

I test very seldom, and always use a new lancet - I am a musician so perhaps I am overly protective about my fingers, but trying to play for dancing with a finger which is even slightly painful would be something of a nuisance. I use a new 'pin' every time just so there is not the least chance of a few molecules of something old being pushed into my skin.

Hi @Rowsie and welcome - hope you have managed to find a place to test at work. Another thing which may make it easier (a friend of mine who is T1 did it and I have done it ever since)... instead of getting all kit out of the bag she just popped lancet out and used the meter whilst still in the holdall. It makes for a swifter reading and keeps everything in place.
I think all other points have already been covered by other people on this post.

Hope your appointment goes well. Write down any concerns/questions you have and take them with you next week.
