Hi. I'm Paul newly diagnosed but think I have been for some time. Question. The metform tabs will they help with hard skin in feet and toe nails or do I need something else. ??
Thanks

Welcome Paul. You have to take care of your feet. Get some advice off your health team. Keep asking pls 🙂

What do you recommend for feet I'm a delivery driver so in boots all day.

Bathe them every night - dry them thoroughly.
Apply something like Valesine Intensive Lotion or E45 Lotion.

Then seek advice from your Podiatrist- perhaps you need their professional help

I was once told off a professional. That the trainers I wore where good for my feet. If you have wear steel toe caps its different. Good luck Paul

Hello Paul and John

I see no-one has actually told you the answer LOL ! - it's no, Metformin nor any other drug used for diabetes (even insulin) will have any affect whatsoever on hard skin. It's a matter of hydration firstly and secondly, taking proper care of the tootsies.

A proper fitting shoe/boot is also key and just because it's a workboot doesn't mean it can't or won't, also be comfy. They do some belting steel toecap trainers these days too - things have moved on A LOT since our dads were needing to wear them! You may well have to pay more to get some that are - but these here feet have to last us our whole life - so they need to be treated as important!

I picked up some JCB steel toe cap trainers in B&Q a couple of weeks ago. Comfy and warm. I even wore them round the shops before watching the rugby.

Army surplus German paratroop boots. Re enforced toes but not steel. The most comfortable boots I have ever had.

My dream is to lose enough weight so I can actually reach my feet and scrape off all the hard skin with one them thingies from Boot's. 🙄

As a Diabetic you have to be careful with tools and your feet.

I do know this as I've had to nag my sister in the past. I presumed one of those scrapers would be okay though or do we have to go to a professional?

Most of these products have warnings on them . The problem is if you have reduced feeling you may accidentally cut the skin.
