Hello - I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes in January this year (2018). I am taking metformin and have managed to lose 2.5 stones since then. I am finding it hard now as I also have coeliac disease and most GF foods seem to have added sugar. I know this is not a huge problem but it does add an additional restriction. I am hoping to find help on this website!

Thank you

Hi Lurcher-Lady, welcome to the forum 🙂 We have a few members here who also have Coeliac disease to consider, so hopefully they will be able to help with any questions or offer suggestions 🙂 How did your diagnosis come about? Well done on your weight loss, that's excellent! 🙂

Hi and welcome. Congratulations on your current achievement. You say gluten free products have a lot of sugar in them, so presumably you are talking about processed and manufactured foods. On a low carb diet (which a lot of us are on here), our main foods are protein of some sort and vegetables, and good fats. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought only grains had gluten in and as a low carb way of eating eliminates or drastically decreases grains, then low carb should help with the blood glucose and the coeliac disease. As I have no experience of coeliac disease I might of course be talking complete nonsense, in which case I stand corrected.

Wow what a great achievement! I am a T1 and mother of a T1 child who is extremely interested in nutrition so I try to eat really healthily and wheat-free as possible. I am a fan of Dr David Zinczinko he has an audiobook that I listen to in order to keep myself motivated and on track. Please give him a go and let me know what you think
Best wishes x
