Hi, my blood sugar is well controlled and have been in remission once ! Weight increase during lockdown put paid to that !
I need advice please for a corn. It got nasty and had antibiotics which now finished. The inflammation has gone but toe still sore with corn. How can I treat this properly as we know that the plasters supplied are not for diabetics ! I am at wits end as pharmacist not very helpful Would so appreciate your help!

As it has been nasty, maybe a chiropodist would be appropriate.
Maybe consider what you are wearing on your feet - I have always worn sensible shoes and sandals - even the platform boots were comfortable. Removing pressure points might do the trick and allow the corn to soften and grow out.
Maybe a non medicated home made protection pad would be a start as long as there is room for it in your shoe?

I would say since it has been previously infected requiring antibiotics specialist treatment would be wiser than trying a home spun remedy. The wrong thing applied can cause untold damage as i found to my cost with some blistered fingers.

Hi and welcome

I think you should ask your nurse to refer you for a podiatry appointment since it has already been infected and needed antibiotics. Unfortunately some areas are not doing routine appointments yet and people are having to seek private treatment where they can afford it. for podiatry. Unless you ask though, you won't know the situation in your area and at least it should get you on a waiting list. Corns can be a long term problem so even if you end up getting help privately with it at the moment you will hopefully get an NHS appointment eventually,
Improving your BG management as much as you can is probably the most important thing that you can do for yourself. Do you self monitor your BG at home and if so what sort of readings are you getting? Are you on any medication for your diabetes? I imagine the corn will be making exercise difficult but maybe consider cycling or swimming if you are able.

Sorry to hear about your poorly tootsies @McEwen

It does sound like something it would be wise to have a podiatrist take a look at. Either as part of your local diabetes service, or paid for privately if your local service is still struggling with the covid backlog.

If you’d like to chat things through, perhaps call the Diabetes UK Helpline on 0345 123 2399 (Mon-Fri 9-6).

Thank you all for your replies and suggested help. I am under the care of a podiatrist, but my next appointment is a few weeks yet ! Also I do wear good Hotter shoes as had polio in leg in 1947 ! Ican pad my toe out adequately to be comfortable, but hoped for a good cream other than perhaps Savlon or Germolene ?

Maybe get a moisturiser cream such as E45 and give your legs and feet a massage every morning and evening to get the blood flowing. It was what I did when my legs swelled up after my Covid jab, but I noticed how it improved my legs and feet in general. It softened the skin and improved the nails, the only downside was the increased hair growth. I would recommend getting a new pot of cream, and washing your hands and feet before starting to be sure everything is clean and warm, for best results.
