Hi was diagnosed T2 5 weeks ago but also have gallstones and liver/pancreas are unhappy so feeling abit overwhelmed. Telephone app with GP and she was keen to put me on metaformin but so far am trying to loose weight and up exercise as not sure can cope with side effects as was on it for PCOS around 20 years ago and really found it hard to take.
Funding website and all courses and content really helpful so am sure will use the forums a lot!

Did your GP tell you what your HbA1C result is as that will indicate how far you are into the diabetes zone, anything over 47mmol/mol will be diabetes. You mention gall stones and pancreas issues which may be part of the reason you blood glucose is raised. Have they arranged a scan to check that out. Have they suggested having your gall bladder removed as that is the recommended treatment for gall stones.
This link may help you with some ideas for modifying your diet, it is a low carb approach that has been successful by people wanting to lose weight and reduce blood glucose. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Welcome to the forum @AlexMH

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and how overwhelmed it has left you feeling :(

Glad you’ve found some of the information you’ve been reading online helpful.

Do discuss your concerns about metformin based on your previous experiences. There may be other meds that might help if your levels could do with a bit of a hand.

Good luck with your weight loss plans - have you has success with any particular approaches in the past?

Currently follow weight watchers as like tracking approach and have reduced carbs, processed foods etc. So far it’s working and have managed to loose consistently in last 4 weeks.

WW can work for people but do tell your consultant that you are Type 2 and hopefully they will direct you to the appropriate dietary program which is not too carb based.

Thanks
