Welcome to the forum, that must be disappointing that there was only a small improvement in your HbA1C in a year so I wonder it you made sufficient dietary changes even though you lost weight.
Why did you stop the metformin, was that because of unpleasant side effects? But hopefully the gliclazide will have helped but diet still plays an important part, Medication can only do so much so without reduction in the amount of carbohydrates you are having then that may explain your slow progress.
Gliclazide encourages the pancreas to produce more insulin but only if it is able so if you did make dietary changes to low carbs and the medication is still not working it may be that you are not Type 2 but Type 1 or LADA ( a slow developing Type 1 in adults) so that might be something to discuss with your GP and ask for the tests for that C-peptide and GAD antibodies.
Meanwhile looking at your diet to see if there is any movement there, with the proviso that you go cautiously with low carb because of that medication.
Have a look at this link for some ideas. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Welcome to the forum @wnek

Sorry to hear about your HbA1c remaining high, and your retinopathy and neuropathy emerging

Hope your switch to gliclazide will have helped reduce your HbA1c since January.

Have your symptoms of thirst and fatigue improved this year?

Hi,

Still waiting for hba1c results, rang doctor last week and they've not received them yet.
Seem to always having to chase, not this time I'll wait til they contact me.

Still believe I'm better off not taking meds, without them I had more energy, able to walk 2-3 miles a day, feet and sleep was better. I'll continue til end of July

Hi,

Have you registered with NHS app or Patient Access (the latter is more user-friendly in my opinion)? I find it a lot easier to access my blood results - as soon as GP receives and reviews them, you can see it online. In my case, it normally takes just 1-2 working days.

There were times that my results were off, but the GP didn't get in touch, so Patient Access really helps me know what's going on.

I'm also new to the forum, so I can't offer any advice, but fingers crossed there is more improvement in your HbA1C this time.

Yes I'm registered with NHS and didn't know I could use to receive test results, thank you.
Well my hba1c 97 compared with 103 in February, don't know whether this reduction is an on target result.

Once again thanks

Were the tests to find out if you are Type1 or LADA as if it was the antibody tests then they can take up to 6 weeks to come back, C-peptide are usually much quicker.
If you have had medication and made some dietary changes then if you are Type 2 then that result doesn't show as much change as one might expect judging by what other people report which does suggest that you may be Type 1.

Just routine I was diagnosed T2 in December 22, hba1c 134, then 84 in Jan and taking meds , metformin since although request a change this year due to side affects to Glicazide.

Along with tiredness and poor sleep (due sore feet and leg ache the Doc said neuropathy) that weight loss I stopped meds last October. The weight lost was 8kg down to 68kg and I wasn't prepared to get a new wardrobe, I'm now at 74kg and managing to keep this.
Still got sore feet and poor sleep tiredness and lack of energy to exercise.

Been 2 weeks since prescribe antibiotics for chest infection, so needed to stop the statins. That been the best thing, after two weeks off statins the neuropathy has eased to a dull pain and I'm sleeping a heck of lot better, last night didn't wake up during the night.
So not going to restart the statins!.
Will be able to restart walking exercise which I stopped whilst taking them
