Hi all, my diabetes story so far. Generally not feeling well in the run up to Oct 23, feeling cold all over with very cold feet, burning sensation in upper thighs, ED and stomach issues. Blood tests done to be told I was T2 with 137 mmol/mol. Bit shocked to say the least, as I thought being a semi regular marathon plodder I was fit and well.

Put on medication but not really well signposted about Diabetes from practice nurse, but lots of self research, reducing my carb intake, taking up more exercise has seen my AC1 level drop to 79 in Jan and now 57. Still high but in a better position. Unfortunately, Morton's Neuroma has stopped me from running but walking keeps me exercising. Hoping to get my blood sugars under control in the next few months by following a Mediterranean style diet - looking forward to the path to remission.

Well done on getting your BG down from such a high level and within sight of the pre-diabetes range. Clearly you're doing all the right things. What meds are you on?

Are you a swimmer? I augment my walking with swimming twice a week.

Hi @MontyDog456! and welcome to the forum!

That's such a quick turn around, well done! We have a specific section on the forum, focusing on remission, which you might find useful, and also the Learning Zone if you're looking to do any more learning at all. Have you been looking at other types of exercise at all? I can see that walking has definitely helped, and I agree with @Martin.A in regards to swimming being a great addition to keeping fit as well. Have you looked into other forms of exercise?

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Unfortunately, Morton's Neuroma has stopped me from running but walking keeps me exercising.
Have you asked about any treatment for the Neuroma?
I have one in my left foot and was given a steroid injection directly into it. The pain disappeared (and so did the arthritis pain in my knees :D). Unfortunately a pain appeared in a different toe when it flexed as I walked.
I do have a bunion on that foot tho, so chances are you'd just have the pain relief from the treatment.

@MontyDog456! I was diagnosed in March much to my surprise. Havnt been on this forum for a while but my “diabetes nurse " was next to useless she just linked me to Diabetes UK she just waffled on for a while and reading certain other members on this forum experience trotted out generic answers .
Anyway despite my absence this forum has been essential for me.
I’m going to appear in again in the morning I’m far better armed thanks to the forum but I have some more questions

Hi, steroid injection has not really helped. Waiting further scans/treatment. Pain has now moved to the left ankle with pinching and stabbing pain all around the foot.

Thank you. Used to do swimming and cross training in addition to running but not since Oct and especially after issues with my feet. Hoping to try swimming again soon.
On metformin and gloclazide as well astrostatin.

That sounds very odd, if the pain has gone to the ankle perhaps it is not actually a mortons neuroma?

I did a lot of reading at the time mine was horrifically painful.
One thing I read on an orthopods blog was stretching of the calves had proven helpful to his patients.
I tied that into information from a runners forum - I forget the exact wording but it basically pointed out that tightness in leg muscles can cause greater pressure on the foot as it's all connected (upper leg to knee to lower leg to ankle to foot).
I tried out the orthopods stretching, and it did help me.

Obviously it's best to do as advised by your doctor, and avoid stretching if it causes pain 🙂
