Hello

Our son (he was 11 on Friday) was diagnosed just over 3 weeks ago with type 1 so its all new to us and we are obviously still learning as previously we knew nothing about diabetes.

Hes on 4 injections per day, one of Levemir and three of Novorapid with meals and taking it all in his stride atm, im sure there will be times when he detests diabetes though, his levels arent within the normal range yet but we are getting there slowly.

It will be nice to chat to other mums with similar aged type 1 kids. 🙂

Hi Jimmy's mum - welcome to the forum. When you're (or, in your case, your son) newly diagnosed, everything seems so confusing, but you'll be surprised how quickly everything falls into place. I'm type 2 rather than type 1, so not so much to learn, but everything I now know I've more or less learned from here, so never be afraid to ask anything you're not sure about.

There are lots of parents of type 1's here all willing to share their knowlege and experience, you're never alone when you're a member of this forum.

Hope your son continues to cope well with his new regime.

xx

Hi there welcome - I was a T1 diabetic child and it made me feel 'special' though in my teens I did rebel a bit - so yes! Expect that in the future and tell him I have jumped out of a plane - hiked up volcanoes, white water rafted, partied, been on school holidays (do they still do those?!) and travelled round teh world for a year - diabetes has never stopped me from doing anything - Oh! Apart from becoming a HGV driver - but think that was just a phase!

Thanks everyone 🙂 xx
