Thought i'd jump on the diabetes bandwagon..🙂 I'm Beth, 18 and got diagnosed a few months ago just before my A-levels, what a joy! Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated..X

Hi Beth, welcome to the forum 🙂 What an awful time to have to go through all that, I hope that you were still able to complete them OK. If you have a look in the thread at the top of this section there are some recommendations you might like to follow - particularly the Ragnar Hanas book and Circle D social group. A few of our members have been travelling to exotic places, so I'm sure they'll be able to help you out with tips and advice. What insulin are you on, and have you been on any diabetes education courses to learn carb counting?

Please ask any questions you may have, we have many members who can relate to what you've just been through and suggest ways forward. 🙂

Hi Beth,

My advice would to be to ask any question that you have because there is nothing daft that can be asked here. I'm nineteen and I've been diabetic most of my life. If you want someone your age to talk to I'm happy to give you my MSN/Facebook details. What sort of treatment regime are you on?

Tom

Hi Beth welcome to the forum! I've had type one for almost 20 years, I'm 22. Like Tom I'm happy to share facebook/MSN/life stories etc.

I see you're from Bath - I spent a year there as a student (I'm a uni drop out, woo). Which hospital are you under?

Definitely ask as many questions as you like. We are always more than happy to answer any you may (will!) have! Don't be afraid to rant or rave, either. The brilliant thing about this forum is everyone *gets* it.

Hi Beth, welcome to the forum.

I was diagnosed at 23, can't believe I've been diabetic for 10 years already.

I only joined recently, great forum though, hope you find it as helpful as I have, the people are all lovely.

Hello and Welcome,

I was diagnosed at 16, jus before i started college, not a good time for it at all.

I have had it five years now, had to wait a few years for the forum so was pretty much on my own.

Its a great thing to be a part of everyone is so helpful, and you will find yu ca help others too even though your only new to it all.

xx

Hi Beth

I got diagnosed last August, a couple of months after my 20th and had to stay overnight in hospital as had a lot of keytones in my system. It takes a while to get used to and finally sinks in after a few months.
This forum is great though, I only joined last month & have learnt lots already! Definately recommend the useful links thread for you 🙂

xx

I'm on lantus and novorapid, are any of you on similar regimes? It's strange, when I was first diagnosed I had so much else to think about that it didn't even really sink in, it's only now that my exams and everything are all done that I've started realising the full implications really! Particularly as I plan to go travelling in my gap year, do any of you have any advice or anything for how to manage insulin etc when away? Tomh and Shiv i'd love to take you up on your offer of facebook details etc, as long as you're prepared for the occasional stroppy rant..🙂 Thankyou for your replies everyone! Xx

No words of wisdom from me I'm afraid!

I'll just send a big warm welcome to the forum instead!

Andy 🙂

Hi Beth,

I'm Vicki, and I was in exactly the same situation as you. I was diagnosed about 4 months ago, just before my A Levels too, and am off to uni in a couple of weeks time. If you want to chat, I'll happily give you my msn and facebook details. Are you off to uni this year?

Vicki 🙂
