Just posting a quick hello.

I've joined this forum after being given the details by someone at a recent meeting at the Diabetes UK HQ in London.

I have been diagnosed since March 2008 and have managed to stay on diet and exercise so far and gradually moved to a low carb regime with the help of several short testing campaigns.

My surgery is very diabetic friendly so I don't have any problems at the moment with test strips, however I don't test intensively very often so a box of 50 strips lasts me a while.

Cheers

Hi LGC, welcome to the forum 🙂 It sounds like you have got a good healthcare team which is very refreshing to hear! Good to hear that you are able to manage your diabetes well.

You'll find many like-minded people here who understand all the ups and downs of diabetes, plus we do have some fun too so I hope you will enjoy beeing a member. No-one knows everything about diabetes, so if there is ever anything that confuses you then please let us know 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Hi LGC and a warm welcome to the forum happy to hear you have a good GP sadly many in here have no confidence in there GP so very rare indeed to hear yours is good x

Welcome LGC!!

Would you say that you've been pretty stable, BG wise, since diagnosis then?

I'm type 2 on diet and exercise since diagnosis in October, 2009 (well, apart from the first 3 months or so when I was on gliclazide and then metformin). So far, my levels have been pretty straightforward.

Andy 🙂

Welcome LGC!!

Would you say that you've been pretty stable, BG wise, since diagnosis then?

I'm type 2 on diet and exercise since diagnosis in October, 2009 (well, apart from the first 3 months or so when I was on gliclazide and then metformin). So far, my levels have been pretty straightforward.

Andy 🙂

[Just to note that I was diagnosed in Berkshire at a very diabetic aware practice, then moved to Suffolk to another diabetic friendly GP. I seem to have been very lucky.]

Well, not really stable.
I have consistently just avoided going on Metformin.
First I declined to start Metformin because I wanted to try and improve my BG with diet and exercise.
Then I started feeling I wasn't achieveing what I expected, and was all ready to go on the pills and the GP said I had improved and should wait a bit longer before going on the pills.
And ever onwards🙂

My BG has slowly improved over the last 3+ years as my fitness has gone up and my weight has gone down.
I have settled more fully into low carbing in the last four months - I was reasonably low carb but then went on a 7 month world tour and my control slipped a bit - and my BG reading have improved again.
I now need to book myself in for a check up to see if I am kidding myself or if things have really improved.

I am now in the top third of the O.K. BMI (the bottom third scares me a bit - I would be stick man) and walk 3+ miles most days so I have limited room for change apart from going extreme low carb.

So hopefully my BG will behave.

If you are diagnosed T2 when reasonably fit and only overweight, not obese, then there are limited areas for improvement without an extreme diet and an exercise regime that may be hard to maintain long term.

Cheers
