Hi,

Thought I would introduce myself. My 6YO daughter was DX's in March with Type 1. I don't know how I have missed this site for so long!

It has been a steep learning curve and we have had little support as we are living in the Middle East and have had to be very proactive in her care (probably not a bad thing as we have learnt so much).

Currently on mixtard 2x a day, doing well - except when she is ill like right now and we are giving actrapid. Well at least we are no longer mixing our own from the vials. Not carb counting yet, but doing ok on the HB1AC with 6.5 and 7 from the last two tests.

Looking forward to getting lots of advice and sharing our own experiences.

Welcome to the forum Gron 🙂

Hello and welcome to the forum - although sorry you have to be here.🙂

My son is 12 and uses an insulin pump - he was diagnosed 2 years ago and is doing well on the pump. How is your little girl handling things - often its the parents who suffer more than the child.:(

There is another email list that most of us parents use that is brilliant (not that this one isnt - just that there are 400 parents of a child with type 1 on there and we all understand how hard it can be). If you would like to join - just go onto the site, choose the 'email list uk' and register. If you dont want your inbox filling up just set up a new email list just for CWD (children with diabetes). I have forgotten the www. so will go and find it for you - crazy as I am on there most days...🙂Bev

Hi Gron, welcome, I'm new here too, my son age 4 dx July this year. I notice you are using mixtard 30. This is being withdrawn here in the uk in December, have you checked this where you are? Novo Nordisk have issued a statement to say that they plan to discontinue all human insulins and have an analogue range only in the coming years. Just didnt know if this will affect you where you live?

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

LouiseB, yes I have heard that it is going to be withdrawn from UK market with effect 31 December 2010. I am planning to take a good stock home with me - bought some pen refils yesterday with a best before date of July 2012 so should be able to bring enough to last a while, and hopefully she will be on a pump before too long. Crazy that insulin and antibiotics can be bought over the counter here but I need a prescription for some cold remedies.

I guess that may be due to some small alcoholic content in the cold remedy?

hi and welcome are you coming back to the uk permanently?
