Hi cherrypie,

I'm a Type 2 also who was diagnosed over nine years ago - and I'm doing just fine.

Why not tell us a little bit as to how you have managed your situation over that period?

Very best wishes - John

Hi John,
I have done it with diet alone. I am not on any medication for anything. I eat most things with the exception of potatoes but I can eat sweet ones. I use a lot of low GI foods and beans are often a substitute for starchy things. Plenty of exercise, gardening, walking, cycling and make sure I do the housework whilst listening to upbeat tunes that make me work faster.
Diabetes has been a godsend really because it has made me improve all aspects of my health and for my husband too who has adapted quite well to the same diet. I am 70 years old and a great grandmother so have plenty of family ties to keep me occupied. We love dancing and socialising and there is never a dull moment.

Masie.

Interesting to hear Masie - keep up the good work.

At what level do you manage to maintain your HbA1c?

Best wishes - John

A big thankyou for the warm welcome from members.

John,
My last HBA1c was 5.00 and has been at this level for the last three years. I am over the moon with my results and wish that all diabetics could manage this condition as I do. Sadly, that is not the case. Others may have been diagnosed late or have more or less insulin resistance and we are all different I know. You have to eat what suits you and not what someone else decides for you. Imagine every meal being unpalatable. I am very lucky to be where I am but that does not mean that I wish to crow about it. There is no guarantee for anyone as to how this disease will progress or what medications anyone needs or will need. I have a very good friend who has tried her hardest and she recently lost her sight to diabetes. There is no right or wrong way to approach this, just do the best that you can folks.

Maisie.

Hello Maisie,

Andy here. I'm 46 and was diagnosed in October, 2009. Like you, I am now entirely diet controlled (lost a bit of weight since October - I'm sure that has helped a lot).

I agree with everything you said in your last post and you said it very eloquently as well! 🙂

Wonderful stuff Maisie!

I hope that you will be able to help others to achieve such levels.

Best wishes - John
