Hi to all, I'm new to this site and want to ask a question?
Does anyone suffer with numb feet and find that they can keep you awake thru night and have to move them about.
I'm going to have them checked and eyes aswell, but I've got to admit I have not been looking after myself with being depressed.
On metformin, dapagliflozin and now added gliclazade.
Thank you for any advice.

Welcome to the forum @jellyj

Sorry to hear about your tootsies :(

Some members describe a condition as ‘restless leg syndrome’ does that sound familiar?

Elevated glucose levels can have a negative impact on blood flow and nerve health in the extremities (lower limbs, feet, hands) which can alter sensation.

Living with diabetes alongside depression can be very challenging, so well done for joining us here.

Hope you find it helpful to share experiences with our friendly forum members.

How long have you been living with diabetes?

Hi thank you for reply.
I think Ive had type 2 diabetes for awhile, went to Dr's and did my bloods which came back at 158 then last set of bloods now 88, I know this is high and now go for long walks on a night to try and exercise and watching my carb intake, trying now to do something positive, so I've joined this site and hope I haven't left things too late.
Yes I feel it could be restless legs but they also feel numb in my toes. My eyes have changed so I'm getting them checked as with my bloods being high.
I've lost some weight with watching what I eat but I find it difficult as I'm always googling how many carbs has this and that .
I'm 58 overweight and not very fit, I'm trying to change and be positive and hopefully not left it too late.
Thank you for reply

I second @everydayupsanddowns comment. It’s a possibility that this is blood sugar related but equally as possible that is a deficiency or something else entirely. There are several deficiencies I’d ask for some bloods, you’re after zinc, iron, magnesium off the top of my head. Some of those meds can deplete b12 which is needed to help absorb other minerals. Any other symptoms bothering you ?

Eye issues can both be caused by high blood glucose but also when you level drops quickly as the shape of the eye changes as the environment within the eye changes back from the abnormal sugary to the more normal salty.
Do tell your optician about your new diagnosis as they should not be prescribing new lenses until your eyes settle and that can take a while, for me it was several months but for others it a a few weeks.
If you want to take a look at this link for some ideas for modifying your meals, it is a low carb approach which you have mentioned that you were trying. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Low carb is suggested as being no more than 130g per day total carbs not just sugar.

Thank you for advice and replying to my message.
Yes I am going to ask about bloods and b12, I have high blood pressure aswell which I take medication for.
I think my eye issues and feet feeling numb are due to my high bloods but hopefully this will alter over time sticking to my walks on a night, quiet time helps clear my head.
Thank you for carbs advice 130g per day,
I've ordered a low carb diabetes cookbook, hopefully it will be here in a couple of days.
I will look at link and mention to Dr about my bloods.
My other heath problem I'm waiting to have surgery in the next fortnight and I thght the diabetes would have prevented the surgery but pre assessment said its OK to go ahead.
This has frightened me into doing something about my health and thank you for replying back to me.

You are lucky the surgery can go ahead, I have heard people are refused when their blood glucose has been a lot lower than yours but it perhaps depends on exactly what is being done and the considered urgency. I hope it goes well.

Sounds like you are doing really well, and whatever positive changes you make will certainly help - it’s never too late! And as a well known supermarket will tell you, every little helps 🙂

High BGs can change the shape of the eye making things blurry, and this can also happen if you start making improvements and your BG levels come back towards being in range (Im not sure how quickly you reduced your HbA1c)

Hi I think I will speak to my Dr again and question this as I'm nervous about the fact my bloods are high, (just been out for one hour brisk walk) my doctor rang last week to talk about my diabetes and high bloods and said operation will still go ahead. I'm having a hysterectomy with everything being taken out in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for reply.

They may be happy if it is a laparoscopic procedure as it is less invasive than traditional surgery.
Do take it easy afterwards though, I was told no lifting, no vacuuming, no driving for 6 weeks but mine was not laparoscopic and was 40 years ago.

Hi yes my feet have the sensation of being numb but my blood levels are high aswell so I'm thinking these are connected,
They can get very uncomfortable on a night when I'm trying to go to sleep.
I'm about to go out on my hourly walk in the evening.
I try to do 10.000 steps ‍♀️ so it usually works out about an hour.
I've found this does help alittle bit with my feet .
Hope you get yours sorted.

My bg is all over the place. Yes I have the same problem part of me thinks it could be restless leg syndrome I’m just not sure if numbness or sensation of numbness is a symptom of restless legs. Thank you

Mine have been getting numb more often too. My HBa1c is raised. It's often a sign of high blood glucose (BG) which causes neuropathy. Try and get your BG down and ensure you keep your feet safe from injury by always wearing socks or slippers indoors. Otherwise you might cut them and not realise. Happened to me several times before I learn the hard way!
