Hi and welcome.

I hope you find this great community as inspirational, informative, supportive and friendly as I have over the past year since my diagnosis. Such a shame you didn't find it sooner.

How are you managing your diabetes? It helps to share some info about medication and HbA1c readings etc like many of us do in our signature line below each post so that any advice can be tailored to your circumstances.

Many people who have been diagnosed a while may have out of date information about appropriate dietary advice, particularly for Type 2s as NHS advice can be a bit unhelpful and most people assume cutting back on sugar and sweet stuff is all they need to do, when it is in fact total carbs that need to be reduced. This includes grain products like bread, pasta, rice and breakfast cereals as well as potatoes and even otherwise healthy foods like porridge and fruit need to rationed. Contrary to NHS advice many of us find that eating more fat is beneficial and makes up for the loss of those other foods. So for example I start my day everyday with a coffee made with double cream instead of milk and sugar as I used to pre diagnosis and I enjoy it so much more. The cream is lower carb than milk, tastes wonderful and provides me with slow release energy through the day and how can I possibly feel deprived when I start my day with such a luxury.
And surprisingly, despite eating a lot more fat than I ever used to (and very few carbs) my weight is stable at a normal BMI and my cholesterol is reducing slightly. And because fat takes longer to digest than carbohydrates, it keeps you feeling fuller for longer, so I don't feel the need to snack between meals and I eat less overall, so it is not even that difficult to stick to the diet.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you one small example of advice on this forum which can be revolutionary in helping you manage your diabetes.

Hello @Brynma and welcome from me as well.
I hope you enjoy the forum, if you have a browse around you will see that there is a lot going on, on a wide range of topics.

Quite a good link to follow to get to know people on the forum is '7-day waking average': https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/group-7-day-waking-average.20148/page-2945#post-978041
Many members post there daily reading here usually with some other notes about themselves.

Look forward to you joining in and getting to know you.
