Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi thankyou for adding me,I have just recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on Metformin 500 twice a day having problems getting used to what I can eat and not to eat some people have told me I cannot have Bannanas not to have very much fruit so confusing my sugars keep rising high then dropping really low feeling dizzy.

Its better to keep carb intake low. If you run marathons etc bananas are ok. Carbs are what diabetics have to control. Welcome & good luck 🙂

Hi Barbara, welcome. It sounds like you are able to test your blood glucose (BG) which is great. A little more info would help us
When you say high then dropping really low, what numbers are you getting ? and when are you testing, ie are you testing just before eating then two hours after starting to eat.

Many of us do have to be careful with fruit , it's not only the amount of fruit it's the type of fruit too, berries are often tolerated better, grapes are little sugar bombs, fruits that originated in hot climates are usually high in fruit sugars (sugar is sugar not matter how natural it is )
The best guide to what carbohydrates your body can tolerate is your glucose meter, has anyone explained how to do this ?.

May I ask who is giving you this dietary advise

Welcome to the forum Barbara S. Others have explained diet and carbohydrates. Equally important is being physically active - not necessarily sport or gym, but activity that fits your lifestyle, that you enjoy eg walking, cycling, gardening etc.

Hi again Barbara. @Copepod is right about exersize, providing you're able it helps a lot. It's best if it's something you enjoy doing as you're more likely to keep it up.
