As I have an EU passport I am not obliged to return to the UK every 90 days, I am considering a move full time to France. I am in receipt of a UK pension and understand that I may be entitled to claim for my medication via an S1 certificate. Does anyone have any experience of this, I am currently on Metformin and Gliclazide. ANY INFORMATION WILL BE VERY GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.
Many thanks

Hi Ann, I don’t have any personal experience, but the rules on S1 certifcates can be found here.
You are treated on an equal footing to a resident in whichever EU state you are, so you may not get your medication free of charge if it’s normal for a resident of the country you are in to make a co-payment.

We have a few members who have experience of living overseas - @Michael12421 and @Bloden may have some snippets of information to help.

Hi there @ANN`S. In response to Mike’s prompt - I lived in Spain for 10 years, but I was working there, not retired, so don’t have the answers to any of your questions unfortunately. Good luck! 🙂

In France, it is normal to pay your GP for each consultation - c. 25 euros, prescriptions are free. However, you pay for the drugs at the pharmacy although they are subsidised for nationals. Residents usually buy 'top up' insurance. However if you are a UK national, the UK Foreign Office have a good deal more info online about going to live abroad virtually anywhere, than you're likely to get here!
