Hi, I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, i am on the excercise and diet just now until the middle of March, I dont know what kind of things to eat, can anyone tell me if the tescos low carb diet would be ok many thanks Linda

Hi Linda, welcome to the forum🙂 Can't advise on the Tesco diet, but keeping the carbs on the low side is a good idea for Type 2's generally - you need to find the balance that is best for you and your levels whilst following a diet you are happy to maintain.

Hi Linda,

Same from me as from Northerner really, I don't know anything about the Tesco diet. However, I suggest that the main thing that a Type 2 on diet and exercise needs to understand is the need to cut back dramatically on the starchy carboydrate that you eat - i.e. cereals, bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. That usually leads to a big and quick improvement in blood glucose levels.

Best wishes - John

Hi Linda,

Welcome to the forum.

Google for Bloodsugar101. It's an american site but very interesting.

I learned to ease off on the carbohydrates. And I lost weight and cut out the smoking.

One thing I say to anyone who is diabeitic is you can eat anything you like - it's the quantities and the frequencies that are the improtant bit.

Dear looby1954,

Welcome to the forum, I guess my advice is just the same as those who posted before me, except that I would add that it is a question of controlling your carbohydrate intake so that you achieve your blood sugar targets. This may mean just easing off on the carbohydrate or maybe a more drastic cutting back - this depends on you and the amount of beta-cell function that you have left. We are all different and following a diet such as Tesco's low carb offering may not be the way to go. You need to use your BS meter to determine what and how much carbs you can tolerate. Have a look at the books thread, you will find some books that show how you can make a controlled carb approach work for you. It is not easy and your diabetes team will probably frown on such an approach - BUT IT WORKS!

Regards DOdger

Carbs

Just eat less tatties! well ok less rice, pasta, bread, etc, etc.
Where does it end?

Sincerely, I hope you can manage to control this, as you will not get a second chance.

Please, please try.

As someone brought up with a typical plate being half filled with spuds this isn't an easy concept to get your head round.
Also as a recently diagnosed type 2 I know I've been sent off to improve my diet but not having a clue until I return for review whether I'm making a difference or not.

I know it's difficult

You really gotta try this as there is no other way round it, is there?

I'm not diabetic , but eating less carbs is possible, after all if you are not going
to be running a marathon in the next week we probably all eat too much carbs!

I know what you mean though, I was brought up the same, but when severed from my parents I tended to eat less, maybe a third of a plate of tatties against half a plate, it will make a difference but you have to want to make the change in your mind as well as your belly!
