Hi all, just a quick line to say, I have just been told that I am type 2, infact one week ago, not yet seen the diabetic nurse, that pleasure still to come, I am 55 yrs old, had 2 minor heart attacks about 4 yrs ago, and have had 2 TIA about a month ago, I do suffer from High BP too, so in the last couple of months I have had a few little shocks to deal with, and now this, well at least i get to meet new people on this forum at least that is a positive.

Hi Nigel, welcome to the forum🙂 A lot to take in, no doubt, but you will find plenty of information and help here. You might want to think of the questions you want to ask the diabetes nurse (DSN) and ask them here first, then you can write them down and take a list along so you dont forget anything.

Hi Nigel and welcome to the site, alot to get used to at first but use this place as much as you can you will find many of us suffer the same ailemnts, have a good browse around you will find this place invauble

Dear Nigel,

Welcome to the club, that I for one wish I wasn't a member of. Having said that you couldn't wish for a better bunch with which to share your problems, joys or concerns.

Warmest Regards Dodger

Thankyou for the warm welcome, its funny I keep thinking they got it wrong because, I dont feel any different from before, I know some of you may say ah yes it is the first stage, that is called denial, but I really dont feel different, I on Metformin 1,000mg rising to 1,500mg by next week, maybe it will come home to me after I have seen the nurse, but thanks again for the welcome,

Hi Nigel, welcome to the forum you will find everybody very helpful and informative here. For some people Metformin causes upset stomachs and other gi effects eg wind etc, this usually subsides within a couple of weeks but if it dosent there is a slow release version called Glucophage SR that has less side effects. How were you diagnosed Nigel? Did you have many symptoms - peeing/drinking a lot, lethargy etc.?

It all started when I had 2 TIA last month, the only symptom I can say is lethargy, I am on diaretics and betablockers and stroke medication and a few others for high BP, a few blood tests later I was told my glucose was a bit high, then i had to have the intolerence test where you know you are stuck at your GP surgery while they do a blood test then you drink some lucazade and two hours later take more blood, and the results came back type 2 diabetic.

Hi Nigel,
Just wanted to welcome you to the forum I hope you find it helpful everyone on here is so friendly and supportive as i'm sure you will find out for yourself. I hope that the appointment with the nurse goes well for you also.
