Hey guys,
im Rachel and im 20 :D
ive been type 1 a year now and still not got good control as currently facing insulin resistance they think. started metformin last friday so hopefully that will help. Im on 5 injections a day too (novorapid + levemir)

Ive completed the DAFNE course in July but since DAFNE i have lost all control. my HBA1c was 7.4% before DAFNE and in August it was 8.1% .. an guess it would of gone higher by now.

xx

Hi Rachel and welcome to the forum.:D

Have your team given you any advice on reducing your hba1c? Do you have any idea why it has increased since doing DAFNE? My son is 12 and uses an insulin pump which has drastically reduced his hba1c from 9.6 to 7.4%. We couldnt really get good control on MDI as he needed very tiny amounts of insulin. There are quite a few on here around your age group and there have been some 'meets' and friendships made - perhaps you could join one and meet up with people of your own age for moral support etc.🙂Bev

Hi Rachel and a warm welcome to the forum hun, sorry to hear things are not good at the moment my first few hbAs were all very close to 8 but with a lot of hard work my latest was 6.4 do you have a good care team? what have they said about getting youre hbA down?, I do hope you can get back on track anything you need to know just ask we are all here to help one another

Hi Rachel, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear things haven't been going smoothly for you, there can be so many variations with diabetes! I hope that the metformin helps. We have a lot of members your age here, so hopefully some of their experiences will help you to improve your control, and above all realise that everyone has their ups and downs so you're not alone in this.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly' and you're not expected to know it all - we have lots of people who are still learning after many years, it can be very complicated at times!

I really dont know why its risen...im taking so much insulin at the moment and its having little effect. my carb counting is okay. but im taking 96units of levemir a day!! and novorapid with meals with a 2:1 ratio on all meals an still getting high bm readings :(

currently speaking to my dsn on a weekly basis and got to go an see her again in 4 weeks. i had an appointment last tuesday an dsn cant understand how im not hypoing all the time on this ammount of insulin per day. started my metformin on friday so hopefully this will help.

my dr has mentioned an insulin pump may be an option for me as it looks like MDI is failing to work =/

Welcome to the Forum

Don't worry about the Metformin I'm on it too. Have you had a continuious glucose monitor that may help. One thing that has helped me is going to the gym it drops my resistance loads I try to go atleast 3 times a week. If you are on Facebook there is a group called Circle D which may help. I'm trying to kick some life back into MyD which is more for the Midlands but by all means join in the fun.

A warm welcome to the forum Rachel 🙂

I'm fairly insulin resistant but adjusting my doses seems to work for me - metformin has never been mentioned.

I would strongly recommend a pump if you are on high doses - I need 3 times as much basal in the morning as I do in the afternoon, and the pump works a treat for issues like this.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Hi Rachel 🙂

Welcome to the forum! Hope the Drs come up with a solution for you soon.

There's a meet in London soon (on the events page), which might be of help to you :D
