Hi Cornish Lass and welcome. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and to hear that you can't get to speak to someone til June! Not good enough in my (humble!) opinion! Have you been prescribed any meds? There is lots of good advice on the newbies section on here. Loads of recommended reads etc. You've come to the right place for support and advice. Firstly you need to get your head round your diagnosis. Please don't feel alone. I have found this place a great source of support. Once you start to read up on your condition, you will find that you can start to control your bg by small adjusments to your lifestyle - lower your carbs, switch to wholemeal carbs and eat smaller portions of them, up your excercise if it's limited and if you can, invest in a blood glucose monitor to monitor what foods affect you. Advice on testing etc can be found in the recommended reading materials at the top of the newbies section. I'm still quite new myself at all this, so I'm sure more people will be along to offer you advice and guidance. The best of luck to you and keep asking questions, no matter how small and insifnificant you may think they are! If you do these things, you will be just fine.🙂 Katie

Hi Cornish Lass, welcome to the forum. katie has said the main things but perhaps go back to your GP and explain the delay to see the nurse.

Your reading are not too bad so no need to fret too much, maybe cut down on your carbs, especially white bread, rice and potatoes etc, (they turn to sugar and raise your readings) and try to eat lots of veg., and when you see the GP or nurse next, you should be well under control.

Welcome to the forums cornish lass 🙂

I'd agree with what has already been stated, it's all carbohydates that raise your blood glucose not just sugars. That said, low Glycemic Index carbohydrates will hit your blood much slower then high Glycemic Index items such as white bread.

If you are overweight, it's helpful to loose it if you can. Also moderate exercise will most likely help increase the effectiveness of any insulin you are producing.
