T1D does anyone else stupidly/ accidentally have their freestyle sensor just fall off. There does always be a reason ( something stupid I've done like hurriedly showered, moisturizer then rushed downstairs and placed the sensor on my arm or ive hit the door frame!!) The thing is I always feel so stupid when I have to call into the company for a replacement they are so patient and sympathetic and I feel there's a spreadsheet with my name on it!!

Rarely. I've only knocked a couple off over about 4 years now. There have been some defective batches with inadequate glue where they did just fall off, I think (though I never had those).

There exist arm bands and stickers and things that can protect them.

Thanks Bruce maybe I've had a few of those dodgy ones then. Yes I've heard of the arm bands as well will consider possibly getting those. Are they prescribed?

Hi @beraghhh and welcome to these forums. Yes, had this happen to me within about 5 minutes of attaching a new sensor, I don’t think it stuck at all and was very quickly just hanging by a thread. My last sensor which I replaced just after Christmas came off very easily and it felt like the adhesive had all but disappeared. But all the others have been really good and had to be tugged off at the end of the 14 days.

Abbott have always been really good in sending out replacements. For sensors that fall off you can just complete an online form rather than call them if it’s easier for you? (https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/help/sensor-support-form.html )

If you fancy having patches to help keep the sensor secured I can recommend Type One Style, (https://www.typeonestyle.com/) really good small company who deliver quickly (I‘ve not used patches but did buy some Novopen stickers to distinguish between my basal and bolus pens as the doctor had prescribed two of the same colour for me!)

Yeah I think sometimes they're a 'hit or miss' holidays can be stressful I went through my 2 months worth in a week! Thankyou for the links though and the good advice. glad that it's not just me lol.

It is important to prepare your arm appropriately before applying the Libre, so putting moisturizer on first is definitely not a good idea. The sensors used to come with an alcohol wipe but they stopped that and it isn't necessary as long as you wash and dry the area thoroughly before applying the new sensor. It's funny how I never knowingly caught a door jamb until I started wearing Libre sensors but you do usually learn to be more careful. I invested in an arm band off ebay which is a 3D plastic watch face with an adjustable elastic strap and it made a significant difference to the security of my sensors. It also acts as a visual reminder when I am in the shower so that I don't scrub the sensor off as happened a couple of times. Sports bras are particularly challenging for Libre and since wearing the arm band, it gets pinged but the sensor remains safe, so I would definitely recommend getting one.

Sorry you’ve had a few ‘door frame’ (and other!) moments with Libre sensors @beraghhh :(

Some people seem to have more ‘libre friendly’ skin than others, and have few if any Libres that fall off, where for others it‘s a constant worry.

I have found with various sensors and devices over the years that it seems to take a good 24 hrs for the adhesive to reach full strength, and any knocks or pulls early-on are way more likely to separate the sensor, which then almost never seems to regain the attachment it would have had if not disloged.

Steer clear of those door frames!! 😱

I like the arm straps, and if you get a co-ordinating libre sticker they can look very unclinical
