Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi i have had diabetics type 2 for three years And always been so good with my diet i was on Metformin 500mg once a day about 5 weeks ago I started feeling unwell to cut the story short I ended up at A&E with my sugers at 29 where they gave me insulin and put a salt water drip in i went to see my doctor who changed my metformin to 1000mg twice a day. my sugers are still between 13 / 18
I can't seem to get them down .
I have a upset stomach most of the time I put this down to the metformin
I hear people saying that there nurses are so good I only see mine once a year and when I called to make a appointment I was told that it would be the end of next week
I feel that living with diabetes is a lonely life ..

Hi Linda,
Sounds like you have had a rough ride! I read the replies on the other post and agree, sounds like a change of surgery might be a good move, you deserve better than you have had. You don’t need to face this alone, you will get loads of support here, we are a friendly bunch and understand how difficult it can be x

Hi thanks I didn't mean to put two posts on here was having problems with the site didn't understand it lol . I'm away tomorrow for a week . When I come home I'm going to look in to changing my doctor . I was talking to someone who has a diabetic friend and she was saying her friend can contact her diabetic nurse for advice at any time . Where as I have to make a appointment which if I'm lucky it will be 7/8 day away . If it normal to be able to ask advice that easily . I already feel better to be able to put my feelings on here and get other people's opinions

That's true for me, too. I have a phone number and email address for the team; I'd anticipate having to leave a message and get a callback (since they'll have appointments most of the time), but in the scheme of things that's pretty immediate. It seems likely that's a bit unusual since I live in outer London (so the population's pretty dense), but I'd hope elsewhere they'd do their best (cheaper to have people answering questions earlier than at A&E).

Hopefully normal for Type 1s, but much less likely for T2s. The dividing line may also be between those seen regularly by a hospital clinic, and those seen at GP surgery.

Hello welcome I totally understand what you are going through it does feel that way that you are living a lonely life. I have had diabetes now for 7 months and was in intensive care close to not being here I was ignored and took me being so poorly . soon as left hospital felt so alone and its so much to deal with people around you don't understand what it is like to deal with this everyday . I now suffer with depression aexity and have some really bad days . I am on 5 needles a day hope one day be on 2 which be easier for me. I never see a nurse because my practice don't have a diabetic nurse we are all here for you anytime Lou

We are not supposed to diagnose but - well - type on in the honeymoon phase does spring to mind.
If you do look in at some time in your holiday, and are feeling ill then I suggest A & E again.
If you have high blood sugar and are not eating a high carb diet, there is something more than 'simple' type two going on.
