Been diagnoised since november and still don't know whether I'm coming or going, getting no help from anyone. Just getting more depressed as time goes on.

Hi niamh, welcome to the forum 🙂 Some health care professionals are better than others at getting you off to a good start, it sounds as though you've been left in the dark a bit. Don't worry though, there are loads of lovely, friendly and experienced people here who will be able to answer your questions and concerns! 🙂

Have a look at the Useful links thread for lots of information to get you started. Particularly recommended is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker.

Are you on any medication? I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Welcome niamh ( love your name). There are lots of Type 2's on here and everyone is so helpful and supportive , which includes Type1, Type2, Diet/medication, Parents and Carers. With warm wishes Sheena

Welcome... U will find so much help here and do get the gretchen Becker book

Yes, get that book. I received mine this morning and it's very easy to read.

As for this forum, it's the Dog's Wotsits. They're are so knowledgeable and everyone is very eager to help and support. I'm new, and the welcome and advice I've had already is great.

Don't be depressed...........just treat it as a challenge.

welcome from me too ... ...I didnt find this forum for a Year after Dx so understand where you are with all the foundering around ....remember no questions are regarded as silly here so ask away ..but firstly a question from me ...are you testing your BS ? are you on any meds?

yes I am testing my BS. Although I was diabetic in November, I never got my tester until Feb. Meds that I am on are metformin and gliclazide and anti depressants venlafaxine. My main worry is my diet. I have been told that the GP's had it in my file that I was diabetic since my pregnancy, my daughter is now 11, they could be bothered to let me know. I have been struggling with my weight since then and have been told that it is harder for a diabetic to lose weight. I have also had also had throughout the 11 years all the signs of being diabetic.

I am still waiting to for an appointment at the diabetic clinic, most of my info has come from this uk website.

I could eat for scotland and now I know I have to watch my portion sizes, but what to eat and when to eat. I have just started eating breakfast and lunch. I have such a hectic life that I don't have time or I get to tired and forgetful. I also get no support from my husband which just makes me more depressed. Now I feel that I have depressed everyone else on here :(

I feel however that joining this forum is a step in the right direction and would like to thatnk all that have welcomed me already, it's given me a wee boost

You haven't depressed me 🙄

There is a helpful weight loss group thread where others offer encouragement and tips for loosing weight. Yes it can be a bit of a struggle as if your body is creating excess insulin then that stores any excess carbohydrates as fatty tissue.

I believe that cutting your overall calorie intake and especially carbohydrate intake and eating regularly (including small snacks between meals) can help with loosing weight as if you stop eating the body tries to hold onto it's reserves.

Hi there, im new too and know where you are coming from.

Heres to finding all the help we need with all the lovely people on here 🙂
