Hi Cheryl, I went for what I thought was a routine blood test for my thyroid (under active) all I was told via a text msg from the surgery is that my Hba1c is in the pre diabetic range, no idea what my levels are, (can't get hold of a Dr round here ). It has stunned me because I probably have one of the most healthiest diets you can possibly eat. My first husband was type 1 diabetic from the age of thirty so we changed our eating habits back in the 70's, making my own wholemeal bread and growing my own veg and still do. I am 8st,6 at 5ft 3", have two large dogs I walk twice a day, do all my own gardening . My TV doesn't go on until the evenings then I only watch an hour before going out with the dogs. Sedentary lifestyle is not in my vocabulary, so you can maybe understand why I am shocked that I am classed pre-diabetic. I don't know how else to improve on what I do.Hi jackienic, welcome to the forum.
Glad that you've joined us at this stage as you're in a great position to avoid getting in to the diabetic range. Were you given your HbA1c, it's your average blood sugar levels over a 3 month period and will help to measure where you are starting from.
One of the most helpful tips I picked up when first diagnosed was to watch out for the carbs in your meals, not just sugar and to make slow but steady adjustments to your existing meal plan so that you have a sustainable way forward.
We've got lots of info on the site so do have a look around and let us know if we can help in any way.
