Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone
my name is susie im 48 yrs old, I have had type 1 diabetes for about 20 years, sadly I havent looked after it and have now got complications, neropathy in my feet and legs, and retionpaty, Ive finely come to my senses and getting my blood sugars to near normal levels trouble is it makes it harder cos then I get a few hypos. In January I went into hospital for a major stomach op which went ok I came out on the thursday collapse on the friday and ended up in intensive care for several weeks they thought I had an infection due to the op and had to open me up, thats all I can remeber, thankfully I came out but a week later I collapsed againg, I had ketone acidosis things werent good and my family were told I only had a 20% chance of living as my kidneys and liver had failed, I was out of it so cant remember anything, only waking up in intensive care again, they said my sugars had gone up too 29 and rising, it was really scary and now Ive been given a second chance and am now trying hard to look after my diabetes. noone has it in my family so I have noone to talk too about diabetes, I do see a nurse every few months but I dont get long with her. I would love to talk to someone who understands and maybe we can help each other, I live in the hertfordshire area.
Anyway hope everyone is ok, look forward to hearing from someone
hugs

Hi Susie. You're certainly not alone here. There's lots of new and interesting ideas to try out and discuss which may help you to stay on track and have a good life. And plenty of us know how easy it is to ignore the healthy route and pretend it's not our problem. 🙄

Hi Susie, welcome to the forum.

Hello and welcome to the mad house. Hopefully we can help you, it took me a while to work out that I do need to control my BG's. That was prior to going to university now I'm pumping. Perhaps you could ask to be referred to a different DSN?

Tom

Hi Susie, it sounds like our levemir might need reducing if you are getting low levels at night, or possibly worth discussing splitting the dose with your nurse.

Keep your chin up and when things look bad you can always talk on the forum, and when things are on the up, you can share that as well. Lots and lots of good wishes to you. Sheenax
