Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi Everyone. I'm long term type1 (57years) and extremely anxious about the Coronavirus to the point where I'm having the most dreadful panic attacks and can't seem to function. Is it affecting anyone else quite this badly?

I'm long term type1 (57years) and terrified of catching Coronavirus although I don't work and am very careful to follow all government advice on keeping safe. I'm so anxious it's making me ill. Does anyone else feel quite so bad?

Hi @Padfoot , and welcome to the forum.

I can understand worries regarding the Corona Virus, but you are no more likely to catch the virus than anyone else. This link to the latest advice from Diabetes UK is pretty comprehensive.

As always any illness tends to muck up our BG levels, so it is good to have Sick day rules to hand, along with your current Total Daily Dose. I have at times been amazed at how much extra insulin I have needed when ill.

Do you fancy telling us how you manage you Diabetes.
MDI or a pump.
What insulins.

You have a vast experience and will have seen so many changes.
Great to have you with us.

Hello @Padfoot
Welcome to the forum.
You ae certainly not alone in your anxiety about coronavirus, it is an unknown and difficult situation for all of us.

There is a link on this website:
Coronavirus / Covid19 Information if you scroll down, you will see some information that you might find useful.

I hope you are still feeling well at the moment. What I have found is that I just need to take 1 day at a time, and try to find some things that I can focus on away from the news, and try to diminish stress as that doesn't help.
If you read around the web site you will see many other things that people are doing to cope with the situation.

Please keep posting and do ask any questions you may have and we will always try to answer them.

Welcome to the forum @Padfoot

Sorry to hear that your anxiety over the Coronavirus outbreak is making you feel ill.

As @SB2015 has said, in the vast majority of cases (even with long term T1, and with advancing years) coronavirus would only result in a mild illness. Social distancing with really help to reduce your risks, and you could personally aim for something more like isolation if you choose that, but be mindful of the effects of extended isolation on your mental health.

I thought these resources around managing worry about covid19 and isolation were very helpful
