ive got type 2 diabetes since 1997. Im on novomix 30 insulin twice a day and take metformin and astrovastin in the night. Since ive been on metformin i have suffered with IBS but lately it has been getting worse and afraid to leave the house use to use imodium but doesn't work anymore.
Have you tried the slow release Metformin? Some find they don't suffer the same side affects on that to the normal version, sorry if its the slow release variation you are already on xx
Welcome Hawkeye, can I ask do you take your Metformin with a substantial meal as I found that key to sorting my problems out. If you already do then as @Kaylz says it might be better for you to ask to be changed to the slow release version, especially if it is stopping you from leaving the house - not nice.
Hello Hawkeye, welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear that metformin is causing you problems, as @SueEK suggest, making sure you take it with or soon after food might help.
As you will see there is plenty of help and knowledge here on the forum, so please ask if there is anything else we may be able to help with.
I can only sympathise - I was put on the same regime - was close to suicidal in a few weeks, but I tossed the tablets in the bin and recovered in a few years - my diabetes was gone in a few months, so I never needed the tablets, but it has been a bit slow going with the memory and muscle problems.
