Hi and welcome. How long have you been diabetic? Would be lovely to know about you if you want to share? How do you manage your diabetes?

Hi Graham and welcome from me too.

Would you like to share more info about your diabetes with us.... for instance as CathyB has suggested, how long you have been diagnosed and what medication if any you have been prescribed and what your most recent HbA1c reading is. This gives us an idea of where on the diabetes scale you are and therefore helps us to give you the most appropriate advice... ie pre diabetic is 42-47 and diabetic is 48+ but that can be anywhere from 48 to 148 and very occasionally even higher. If you are up towards the top end of the range then more drastic action is needed than someone who is at the bottom end, so knowing your reading is quite helpful. It also gives you a reference point from which you start your diabetic journey and hopefully progress downwards from, enabling you to set yourself targets.
Reducing your carbohydrate intake is the way to achieve this and lower your Blood Glucose (BG) level. That is not just sugar and sweet things like cakes and biscuits, chocolate etc but also starchy foods like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, breakfast cereals including porridge and even fruit. This may sound like there is nothing much left to eat but a low carb diet can be quite enjoyable once you get your head around it.
