Hi thanks for my welcome, my concerns are:-Hi Alan, welcome to the forum (I'm another Alan, 1958 vintage) 🙂 How have things been for you? Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we'll be happy to help 🙂
Alan sorry if I've missed this somewhere in your thread...is that right you haven't had a review in over a year?...the levels from your HbA1c test are not terribly high...just about at the point where they put you in diabetic range...usually when in that range our records are marked with no further action required...clearly as you know the HbA1c results are based on your glucose levels for the last three months...so that is an average spread over that period...if your BG is creeping up...it may be that your next one (HbA1c) will show that increase (not meant to worry you)...I see no reason why you shouldn't ring your GP...ask for a review appointment...tell him you have been exercising good control...but...that your BG has increased recently & you haven't had a review for the last twelve months...as for medication or not...I can't answer that question I'm afraid...your GP can...you may need to be persistent...don't worry about that...not unusual for the time of our HbA1c/reviews to be extended over a period of time...three months...then six...then twelve...but...not to have any professional review of how you are managing your diabetes in a year is not acceptable ...do you think it has been overlooked...forgotten...call your surgery and ask for a review appointment...you're entitled to one.Hi thanks for my welcome, my concerns are:-
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2013 my HbA1c started at 6.9 which triggered the diagnosis. Over the last couple of years my HbA1c has fluctuated between 6.5 and 6.3 but my last one two weeks ago was 7, when I phoned the surgery they said the Dr filed my result as no further action required. We did have a nurse dedicated to Diabetes but she left a year ago and hasn't been replaced. I use to have a one to one appointment every 3 months but haven't had one since the Nurse left, the recent HbA1c was only done as an add on to other bloods being taken for another matter. I have a blood testing machine my blood tests average out at 8.3 but in the late evening they are usually 10 to 14 we usually have our main meal between 6and 8pm. Should my Dr take this more seriously and should I be on medication?.
Thank you Bubbsie.Alan sorry if I've missed this somewhere in your thread...is that right you haven't had a review in over a year?...the levels from your HbA1c test are not terribly high...just about at the point where they put you in diabetic range...usually when in that range our records are marked with no further action required...clearly as you know the HbA1c results are based on your glucose levels for the last three months...so that is an average spread over that period...if your BG is creeping up...it may be that your next one (HbA1c) will show that increase (not meant to worry you)...I see no reason why you shouldn't ring your GP...ask for a review appointment...tell him you have been exercising good control...but...that your BG has increased recently & you haven't had a review for the last twelve months...as for medication or not...I can't answer that question I'm afraid...your GP can...you may need to be persistent...don't worry about that...not unusual for the time of our HbA1c/reviews to be extended over a period of time...three months...then six...then twelve...but...not to have any professional review of how you are managing your diabetes in a year is not acceptable ...do you think it has been overlooked...forgotten...call your surgery and ask for a review appointment...you're entitled to one.
Hi Amigo yes I have downloaded a Carbs & Cals app today and by using it cut down my carbs by half for my evening meal, I suppose being the evening I'm not using any energy so I presume that'll have an effect on my blood glucose levels. My surgery only review my diabetes every 12 or 13 months to be honest. It never gets a mention otherwise.
Welcome Alan. You seem to be doing ok generally but I'd advise you to re-think the carb content in your evening meal. It's the time of the day I'm least insulin sensitive too. You need to aim for 2 hr post meal levels to be under 8.5. Best wishes, Amigo
Alan that is not good enough...often the treatment meted out to type 2's is shabby in general...so if the diabetes nurse is not in place for another three months...six months...what does that mean for you...you wait ad infinitum?...I suggest you put your concerns in writing...doesn't have to be contentious...or confrontational...just a letter to your GP expressing your concerns that your normally well managed blood glucose seems to be creeping up...worried you haven't had a review/guidance for a year...asking him to confirm the starting date for new DSN...if that is some way off...you would like a review with him or a colleague...often we are fobbed off with the flimsiest of excuses...I would address the issue now.Thank you Bubbsie.
When I saw the doctor 2 weeks ago I did complain and have been told they now have a new Diabetes nurse and will be seen as soon as as it is possible. My daughter has shown me an app called carbs & Cals and it's brilliant you can customise any type of meal so hopefully I will return to the lower blood glucose levels.
Hoping you are managing your diabetes ok
Kind regards
Alan
