Hi my name is Emma and I am a type 1 diabetic for 11 years now. For most of that time my diabetes has been uncontrolled and i have struggled with it ALOT
.
My HBA1c's have always been about 9-10 but last year my last one hit 11 and my goal is to get that down.

I really want to try and accept my diabetes as part of my life and end the struggle and i am trying but finding it hard.

Not really sure what i expect to find here, i joined a support site once before but I ended up receiving alot of conflicting information that just sent me into another confused spiral.

Anyway im hoping this time i can combat this diesease and not let it beat me.

Look forward to hearing from other people and maybe getting some support that i cant seem to find anywhere else as my friends and family although they are great just dont understand..........but then again do I 🙂

Thanks
Emma

hi emma and welcome many of us struggle thats why this place is so great , everyone knows how every else is feeling and theres always somebody to chat to , have a look around the site and find your feet so to speak x

Hi Emma, nice to meet you and welcome to the forum🙂 You're right, there is a lot of conflicting advice out there, mainly because people's reactions seem to differ so widely. But there are some basic principles you can learn and then use your own experience, recording food, blood and insulin doses, to help you get a better HbA1c. I think, in particular, there a lot of longer-term diabetics who have either 'got into a rut', or have received conflicting info from the professionals over the years as treatment regimes change and new methods are introduced. People can also assume that you already 'know it all', so don't try to educate you or involve you in new things.

I'm a bit of a bookworm, so I always recommend getting a good book and taking your time to read slowly through it. This will give you a good grounding and bring you up to date. Particularly good, I find, are Diabetes for Dummies and also for Type 1s Ragnar Hanas' book 'Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults'.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask - there are no 'daft' questions here and we will be more than happy to help🙂 Let's get that HbA1c down!:D

Hello and welcome to the forum Emma 🙂

Hello and welcome from me too, Emma.

Coming here is a big step in the right direction -- well done you for deciding to take this particular bull by the horns. You will find understanding, lots of knowledge, and lots of humour. Everyone's more or less in the same boat -- dealing with this many-armed monster called diabetes. Ugh. (Sorry about all the animal analogies -- what am I thinking?!)

All the best Emma.

Hi Emma, Don't know what you expect to find.......but what you WILL find is plenty of friendly advice and support, answers to any niggling questions you might have, and lots of chat on a thousand different angles of diabetes.

We also talk about other subjects sometimes too !! 😛😛

Hope you at least find SOMEthing positive from spending time here.

xx

Sounds very much like me until about 2 and a half years ago, Then I went on my DAFNE course and everything changed, I did 4 tests a day like I was supposed to, I am now on a pump and do AT LEAST 10 tests a day, I don't have to do that many but it is just a habit to me now.
The DAFNE course explains things properly, Unlike before.
Could you get onto one of these courses?, If you haven't already of course.

Hi Emma,

Welcome aboard, as you can probably tell already this is a friendly place and you've done well to find it:D

Hope you get you levels down soon too. Have a look around, post your rants, ask questions, answer threads, get involved!

See you around

Rossi 🙂
