Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
HI All,

I am 29 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 9 yr ago by accident. I am a nurse and had been having UTI's so dipsticked urine found glucose and the rest is history.
My family is rife with diabetes and about 6/7yrs ago my cousin developed diabetes whilst having Chemo. She was contacted by a research nurse and the family were spoken to about genetic testing, i was not involved as don't live in same village but the nurse was told about me and contacted me.
Anyway long story short....we all had genetic testing and came back with the diagnosis of MODY (Maturity onset diabetes in the young) which is a genetic default. I fitted the example of MODY to a tee. I am not overweight, young and tablet controlled.
Just wondered if anyone else had this?
Anne

Hi Anne I'm Nikki and I have MODY, diagnosed nearly 9 years ago now, luckily I was correctly diagnosed straight away due to my mum already being diagnosed with it, my family was 13th family in the UK to be discovered.

which type of MODY do you have?

Hi Nikki

i don't actually know the answer to that question, i was never given alot of info other than it is a faulty gene which means i can continue to be treated with tablets other than in pregnancy (2nd one for me).

I may have to speak to my diabetes team when i have my next pregnancy clinic appt. I was sent a leaflet but not much else. I should try to find out the info i have.
I have always remained well controlled and in my last pregnancy managed only on Lantus OD at the highest i was on 30 units. I had eyes done few weeks ago and recieved a letter saying I may have the beginnings of retinopathy so will be screened within 3 mth which i was expecting 3mth appt anyway due to pregnancy. This has worried me a little.

@Rod HNF1A mutant I'm afraid you may not get a response here, the original posters profile says they haven't been online here since 2009 although gives the repliers last visit to the site as June this year, if you haven't already done so you could always post and introductory post and include your question in there 🙂
xx
