Thank you for your replyWelcome to the forum.
I would suggest you have type1 diabetes and not type2.
He still shouldn't of frightened you like that as those numbers were a week old.My blood sugars were 35 and Ketones 2.2
The sudden weight loss is the big difference between Type 1 and Type 2, where many people need to lose weight and have to put effort into it. Mine just dropped off at a rate of 4lbs a week and I can still remember looking down at my arms and legs and not recognising them as mine because I lost so much flesh.
hi, was tested, no antibodies and c-peptides in normal range as were ketones. and no, not trying to lose weight it just kept happening. at diagnosis i was around 10.5 stone and none of my clothes fit anymore@Oblivious Were you tested for Type 1 ie GAD antibody and C-peptide tests and were you trying to lose weight or did it just happen?

thank youWow! That is very strange! Have you been referred to a specialist? You definitely don't sound like a typical Type 2 but as with anything "Diabetes" there can be a huge variation in what is normal and a lot more work needs to be done in researching Types of diabetes as there may well be a lot of sub groups within the Types.
I will thank you .Let me say that I too think that this is type 1. Why?
Ketones: very unusual in type 2, typical of type 1
Speed of onset: type 2 usually develops slowly, type 1 is often rapid.
Weight loss: typical of type 1, type 2s often struggle to loose weight at all.
Treatment it would not be usual for a newly diagnosed type 2 to need insulin initially. Needed for type 1, nothing else will do. I think that someone is hedging their bets and using insulin in case you turn out to be type 1!
The ONLY thing that is not typical T1 is age. Some medics still believe that T1s have to be under 30 at diagnosis and just say T2 after looking at the date of birth. But T1 can occur at any age.
Ask the question "Why do you think that I am type 2?"
